WE ALL CAN GROW AND WE ALL CAN LEARN
Added 2020-06-06 15:19:01 +0000 UTCHey friends. Phew, another week behind us. I wanted to start by posting a reply I wrote on the YouTube of the show from a fan of the show (a woman of color, I believe ) who was disappointed in Thursday's show. If you'd like to read her comment you can easily find it on YouTube:
I'm sorry Anita. we are definitely self-aware of this and have discussed how to broaden our guest list to include people of color and women and not just as a reactionary, cynical move, it's GENUINELY something we're striving for. Recently, we've started booking guests weeks in advance, which is a new aspect of the show (in the recent past it was just me texting someone I knew the day before!) So we had Stephen and Mark booked and we didn't want to cancel on them - and I thought Alex was a great and informed guest to talk on the subject on a broader level and I had been consumed by his book so I was excited to talk to him.. we've already reached out and are talking to BLM activists and other people of color and we'll continue to work to broaden the diversity of the show because we feel ultimately that will make for a better show! I'm not sure about the blackout moment you referred to... The show tends to be a blur for me... but thanks for sharing how you feel! I really appreciate it when it's done in a thoughtful manner! We all can grow and we all can learn! LoveTim
So yea... I was very happy with the show, all things considered but it was on our minds that we could have done better or tried harder when it came to racial representation. We'll do better.
The week was filled with watching news, having conversations with friends, learning how to do better and how exactly to direct my activism (oh also did some a little writing for a TV show you all seem to enjoy ;) )
- I'll tell you it's a messy process and I wish everyone could give people the space and patience to not always get it right, but I'm also trying not to come down too hard on anyone because everyone is just going through this in their own way. Right??
Also! I'm warning you with PEACE AND LOVE:::: Apparently there was some nasty name calling in the Zoom chat. Come on gang, this is a pretty small, friendly little community and please try to show each other respect online especially in the pretty closed world of Zoom. Any more of that business and you'll be tossed! Thanks!
Here's Alex's FREE book! try and get people to read it! I think it can open minds and be a good way to talk to people when they invariably bristle at "Defund The Police" https://www.versobooks.com/books/2426-the-end-of-policing
And here's a one stop shop of resources for donations and ways to be active: https://blacklivesmatters.carrd.co/#donate
Sniffy anyone?
Peace and Love,
Tim
