Prequel Update

Hey guys!

I wanted to give an update on the prequel I’m working on for Corrupt Idol. I’m happy that some of you are excited about this one! In case there’s any new people around, I’m taking a breather from the Singed Series and writing this prequel before I dive into book 4. I’m using this time to build up my emotional stamina, which I desperately need for Roth and Jasmine.

Anywho, about the prequel…

I’m about 40k into this book. I’m hoping I’ll be finished with the first draft in another week/week and a half? I’ll probably take a week off before revision/edits. I think it’ll release mid to late December? Again, I’m planning on just using the readers on Ream/Patreon to help with proofreading and stuff.

I don’t have a title yet. This is dual POV with Jesse opening up the book and giving his side of the story, which I think is really necessary and gives a better understanding of the emotional undercurrents in Corrupt Idol.

I underestimated how uncomfortable and triggered I would be, writing this book. I can’t help feeling like I’m doing something wrong, exposing the genesis and evolution of a relationship like this. To start the book with their first meet, which is so sweet and innocent and then to show this depraved downward spiral has me squirming and wondering if I should continue. Ahhh!

Writing younger characters, reining in my language, and thinking back to my mindset at these ages has been kind of fascinating, actually. I’ve never written a prequel before. I’ve had to fit scenes into parameters set by details mentioned in Corrupt Idol and that’s been an interesting challenge. Sometimes I’m like, “How the hell am I gonna…” But I’ll sit down and start outlining on paper and inevitably something will emerge. Taking one sentence from CI and then creating a whole scene from that is pretty mind-blowing and has been a good exercise in creativity.

At this point, I suspect the prequel may be longer than Corrupt Idol (56k), but we’ll see what the final word count is when I’m done with the first draft. I’m not sure if I’ll keep all the scenes I’ve started. I was jumping around a lot so some things may be cut.

I think my main issue with this story was I was extremely uncomfortable with their ages of when they get sexually active (16/17, 17/18) and then describing Jesse’s obsession, which I got into fairly early. Like I said, I was squirming and biting my fingernails. Here’s an example:

Jesse lay in bed, stroking his cock with Violet’s underwear. He managed to snag it from her hamper before he joined the family for dinner.

A few months ago he stumbled across Violet’s underwear that she’d obviously dropped after her shower. He didn’t kick it under the counter or discreetly toss it into her hamper. No, he’d picked it up and once he caught a whiff of it, wrapped it around his cock and jacked off in the sink.

He knew it was wrong, but he couldn’t help himself. Every couple of days, he stole another one from her hamper. His unhealthy fetish went into overdrive when Mom took Violet shopping for her sixteenth birthday and bought her an array of satin underwear.

He was losing his mind. Girls threw themselves at him, but the only one who interested him was sleeping in the bedroom next to him. Who rode to school with him every day, who he ate dinner with every evening. Guys who thought it was shitty to be in the friend zone had no idea what utter hell it was to have the love of their life see them as their brother.

I’ve gone into way more detail than I anticipated, but I hope that just makes for a more well-rounded story. I’ve written the beginning and pieces of salacious scenes on the back half, but I have to write the middle and then flesh out the scenes I intend to keep.

I don't have a title for this yet. If I don't have one by the time I give to you guys, you can help me come up with one!
