“Roth is…” Sarai pursed her lips.

“He’s what?” she snapped impatiently.

“He’s, you know...” Sarai hesitated and then gave an apologetic shrug as she finished, “different.”

Jasmine double blinked. “What are you talking about?”

“I don’t think Roth sees women as women. He’s so focused on work, I don’t think it registers that they’re a different sex unless they’re dressed a certain way. And most of the time, he’s too lost in his head to register that, either. I’ve seen several undo more than a few buttons to get his attention. Most of the women he interacts with think he’s playing hard to get. They refuse to believe he’s not interested, which makes them more aggressive. I couldn’t see the man you describe in the books in my boss until you reunited in Colorado. He actually sees you. You register for him where no one else does.”
