“I had a feeling you would love Greek food,” she sang, and barely resisted the urge to skip along the sidewalk like a little girl.

“We’ll have to come back so I can try everything I didn’t get to this time.”

She bumped shoulders with him as she teased, “I think you should take the owner up on her offer to give you a free meal since you ordered half the menu.”

“I was hungry,” he said, mouth quirking when she tipped her head back and laughed.

“The way the dishes wouldn’t fit on the table,” she wheezed. “The servers didn’t believe you could eat it all and even took pictures. That was the highlight of my week.”

“Glad I could be of service.”

It was a beautiful night. Warm, with a light breeze. It was quiet, with almost no other pedestrians on the sidewalks and few cars passing by as they made their way back to her apartment building. It was later than they normally went out to dinner. His meeting went over by a few hours. She didn’t admit to herself how crushed she was, thinking he’d cancel, or the elation she felt when he called an hour ago to let her know he was fifteen minutes away. Instead of searching for a place to eat, she suggested they walk to the Greek restaurant that she went to regularly and was thrilled by his enthusiastic reaction to the food, which he’d never tried before.
