Another snippet from chapters 2-5

“I had my faults, but I never thought I’d see the day that you ran to the man I freed you from.”
His words hit her like a punch in the gut. She felt the blood drain from her face.
“Your father tortured and publicly humiliated you every chance he got. He banished you to the country and left you in boarding schools to keep you out of the spotlight because you didn’t fit the Hennessy image.”
“Stop.”
“He treated you like an outsider, a nuisance. He never mentioned you unless he was asked directly if he had another daughter—“
“Shut up!”
“You got your fucking master’s to please him and he sabotaged every chance you made to use it. Even after he disowned you, you tried to be a good daughter and see him in the hospital. But, no matter how ill he was, he always remembered to have you barred from his room.”
He grabbed her fist before it could connect with his face and when she did a wild swing with the left, he used her momentum to force her around so she was facing the counter with him behind her.
“I gave up everything for you, yet one fuck up, and you demand a divorce? You refuse to talk to me and run to the bastard who gave you nothing your whole life?”
“Don’t talk about my father!”
“How are you going to stop me?” he taunted as she did her best to injure him, but ended up bruising her legs against the lower cabinets instead. “I can say whatever I want about your precious father. After all, I know him best. You and your sisters have no clue who he really was.”
When she lunged for the sleek knife block, Roth pinned her wrist just shy of her goal.
“You don’t think it would be that easy, do you?” he whispered darkly.

Playing around with ideas and dialogue in opening chapters, of things from their past they need to sort out. Dialogue & actions may be altered in final. The first draft is where I experiment and have fun. I usually have a crazy, medium, and tame versions of tense scenes. This one is between crazy/medium. We'll see if it sticks for the final. Enjoy :)

2023-09-01 00:01:28 +0000 UTCI honestly understand Roth and how he felt, dare I say, bad. Like despite how terrible Maximus was, jasmine still loved him and got the last few years of the dad that she always wanted. But Roth makes one mistake and she bolts. I feel like they should talk abt how it wasn’t just that as a reason for her to leave, like even when he proposed marriage she asked him if he’d ever regret it and he said never but that day in the penthouse he kinda implied that he did. Plus all the stuff of how he didn’t want her near and like didn’t have time for her, met her 4-5 times a year and the biggest of all NEVER SAID HE LOVED HER. I think all this catapulted into her questioning everything and leaving before he left her. Basically, I understand both sides🥹
