Postpartum is crazy. You’re literally a different person.

2024-11-06 16:41:51 +0000 UTCI was diagnosed with ADHD when I was 5ish. I have a severe combination of hyperactive and inattentive; and the meds that I take make me feel slow like everything is just slow now, but that’s only because I’m use to my brain being every where and all over the place!

2024-05-21 14:04:38 +0000 UTCI found out I had severe combined ADHD last year (27) finding out I'm autistic (28)... I reckon fuhad has auDHD too. It's truly life changing having the diagnosis' and medication for ADHD. Support and therapy is incredibly important too. #neurospicygang ❤️

2024-03-26 20:34:31 +0000 UTCjust listened to this ep and loved that Fuhad opened up.. even in big 2024 adhd still has a stigma. that with the expense and how long a diagnosis can take i have been putting off seeking help. would love to know if Fuhad or others on here went private or NHS?

2024-03-01 21:46:31 +0000 UTCI just found out a year ago at 34. It definitely does offer a different view on the world. Meds have changed my life as well and I was a person who never took meds until I was diagnosed.

2024-02-01 17:54:49 +0000 UTCI feel like y’all both should read the dilemma’s/reddits as one person reads aloud because y’all (James) tends to miss small but important aspects of the story. She did tell her husband and he chose to ignore it and then got his feelings hurt when she snapped on him. She sounds overstimulated and like she probably needs more contribution from him. She’s NTA

2024-02-01 13:01:49 +0000 UTCFuhad’s admission for adhd was so heart warming. I got diagnosed at 27, meds have changed my life!! Combined ADHD is both inattentive and hyperactive, it’s a strange world. Also most people with adhd are on the asd spectrum. Just a different view on the world.

2024-02-01 04:30:58 +0000 UTCThis podcast is so relatable! Fuhad if you have to go on meds for your ADHD it is life changing! I was diagnosed when I was 27 I’m now 30 and thriving.. it’s bitter sweet I wish things were picked up on at school because I feel like my choices and decisions have been impacted and I’m not where I want to be.. but I will and James is so supportive of you and that’s what you need!

2024-01-29 12:48:35 +0000 UTCADHD is long and I've taken medication for it and I can't lie, it made me feel terrible I was not myself and I became cold and cold hearted, so my advice would be try it without the medication #loveforfuhad

2024-01-29 04:45:37 +0000 UTCAs someone with ADHD, I can vouch that medication is a bit of a journey to take. Trial short vs long release stimulant drugs and see what works best for you. I found that as long as I've eaten and I'm not taken the meds too late in the day... I don't feel over stimulated or insanely hyper focussed like those who take it (recreationally) to study or party. Our brains are wired a bit differently so "stimulant" drugs dont speed us up the way they do in non-adhd people. I just feel calmer... less static. Like you reduce 20 computer screens in your mind to 2/3. Anyhow, best of luck on your journey! I hope it brings you some peace and clarity, Fuhad! 💫

2024-01-26 19:06:31 +0000 UTCI have combination adhd and I was just diagnosed. It changed my life after discovering and really learning about it my life makes so much more sense. Your whole world will change. I am on meds and the first time I took it, it freaked me out because my mind was so quiet. Good luck on this journey to self discovery.

2024-01-26 16:49:38 +0000 UTCADHD meds affect people differently based on their brain function. What gets one person high like cocaine, settles and focuses someone with ADHD.

2024-01-26 16:49:09 +0000 UTCI came here to say this. My adhd meds changed the game for me. I wish I had them in school!

2024-01-26 11:53:42 +0000 UTCAs someone with this condition, the best way I can explain to people who don’t have it is “ it’s like your brain having 100 internet tabs open at one time, with no ability to close them out” 😕

2024-01-26 11:09:22 +0000 UTCRight. Someone is being vulnerable, don't jump right to being dismissive or make uneducated comments about treatment options. That was cringe.
Karen Russell
2024-01-26 06:29:48 +0000 UTCExactly. The stigma AROUND ADHD meds comes from people abusing them. It was life-changing for me. ADHD can be exhausting and disabling at times. Taking medication to improve quality of life should be applauded, not received with Meds are crazy.

2024-01-26 06:03:58 +0000 UTCI saw it in the way my dad went on about his kidney stones , but when it came to my sisters postpartum recovery he was understanding but also very flippant about it. People really just expect women to get through shit and literally say "it wasn't that bad tho". Crazy Brazy

2024-01-25 23:09:02 +0000 UTCFuhad I’ve been diagnosed with the same exact type of adhd you’re talking about. Just know that not all medication is made with people but when you find one you’re comfortable with it’s an absolute game changer

2024-01-25 21:39:12 +0000 UTCI got diagnosed with hyperactive adhd at 5 and been taking meds ever since. I’ve heard stories and know from several people about taking meds and it doesn’t help everyone but it’s helped me and I def would recommend giving them a try and if they don’t work out for you.. guess what? You can stop taking them. Also I def wouldn’t take much of what James said about the meds into account as the reason it makes people “hyperfocus” and “it’s like cocaine” is all entirely based on who is taking them. To put it simply, when someone without adhd takes them it makes them go from 100 to 150 where as when someone WITH adhd.. you know, who they’re meant for.. it brings us from 50 to a neurotypical persons regular 100 making us feel normal. I’m sure most people won’t actually read this but for those who did I hope you found it at least somewhat interesting : )

2024-01-25 20:13:33 +0000 UTCNot an ashole situation. Postpartum can be vicious, especially is Childbirth was Traumatic. You can feel violated physically and require therapy to overcome that damage. Your hormones are out of wack, affecting your ability to enjoy sex mentally and physically. She needs to speak with her medical team and get to the source. Very common and unfortunately people underestimate Postpartum recovery. Women don't have these conversations enough.

2024-01-25 19:02:37 +0000 UTCAs someone who has recently started treating their ADHD let me tell you that it has changed my life significantly! I had to try several meds before I found the one that worked for me (I tried non stimulants first and they did nothing. I was scared of the stimulants for reasons) As soon as I found the med that worked for me it was like night and day. I was able to work and get stuff done. And all I could think was "This is what other people feel like. This is what it is like to focus on a single task and actually complete it. It doesn't help with my impulsiveness and I am okay with that. The ability to focus is a God send. Especially with Grad School. I don't see how I even managed to get three degrees without the meds at this point. I am proud that you are working on yourself. Cause untreated ADHD is a BITCH to live with when you actually have things that need to be accomplished.
Jennifer Pierre
2024-01-25 18:49:33 +0000 UTCOne of the most important things as a friend is to acknowledge how he's feeling, and don't question it, judge it, or disregard it. Some of the things James said were a bit out of touch, probably from the shock of it , but we all need to know how to respond better when people talk about these kind of things 🥰

2024-01-25 17:38:35 +0000 UTCJames has to be mindful of the “crazy” word when therapy is involved. I know he meant well.. but that word can ruin a lot.

2024-01-25 17:14:15 +0000 UTCDiagnosed at 22 and can majorly relate to the relief and how everything just seems to make sense. Going on medication has completely changed my life, my brain just slowed and things come out more logical and the improvement it had on my university work was mental. There are side effects to the meds but for me personally the positive majorly outweighed them

2024-01-25 17:06:59 +0000 UTCThe AITA, that lady needs to see a therapist ASAP as it could be PND. Also “feeling like you can’t so no”!? I’m sorry baby but this is coercion. You are not the asshole, neither of you are. But you should be able to communicate with your partner.
Lily
2024-01-25 16:58:31 +0000 UTCReddit AITAH: She's an asshole for not telling her husband exactly how she wants him to be intimate with her. His idea of intimacy & hers are different now. If she doesn't know what she wants that's fine but don't just shut him down, experiment til you find what you like.

2024-01-25 16:55:35 +0000 UTCAs a mentally ill girlie on meds, I would say don't be scared to try them. They work for some people, others don't like them. But whatever tools available to better your life, I say do it!
