So the best thing would be for myself to reflect and realize that as level-headed as they are at times, they also can get things wrong when only given a few moments to react and process information. This will happen to anyone, even me. So if anything, while I didn't like how the discussion started, I should follow in their example and think through situations for some time before reacting. Cause I do believe they settled on a pretty good view of the situation at the end of all the discussion.

2025-01-24 20:35:57 +0000 UTCNot directly a response but this is the best prompt I've had to vocalize this, recently with Wotcel I've had to wrangle with the line between "dunking on idiots is fun and entertaining" vs "these are situations where we can be empathetic and constructive". I think the show would be boring if every story went "wow that sucks, I hope you can fix it" or, conversely, they only ever pressed "KILL". I guess my point is that I've realized that us commenters are effectively reviewing Wotcel as they are reviewing the posts. So when Jordan forms a thought based entirely on gut reaction, Danny colors his opinion based on his past experiences or Joseph finds the most unimaginably contrarian take possible, that's all fun to hear and I've realized we shouldn't take it too seriously. And it's extremely satisfying to sit smugly in our ivory towers and tell them they're slightly wrong. A beautiful relationship to sit in and give them money.

They were chastising the boyfriend in the first story about not trying to learn something he doesn't know or be open about not knowing it. But for the second story when the wife is being open and trying to sort through her feelings and experience, they're so quick to say that these things don't need to be discussed with your partner, the person who is closest to you and the person who would be able to help you understand these things most hopefully. I am really happy that at the end Joseph was able to convince the others that the couple should have a sit down and try to learn about how to sort through these feelings. Even though the Councel understands that everyone's lived experience is different and not everyone will know the things you know, they're still able to be blindsided by the belief that some things people should just be able to intuit without opening up or discussing things with others.
