Feedback Needed: Fantasy Basketball Dynasty Trade Values

Hey all - I'm currently working on creating a fantasy basketball version of this old fantasy football dynasty trade calculator https://hashtagfootball.com/fantasy-football-dynasty-trade-calculator - and I'm needing your feedback on a formula I've created to generate the trade values.

I've attached a link to a Google Sheet to this post and I'm hoping for some dynasty peeps to take a look and calculate the values of some trade scenarios to see if the values match up to your expectations?

This is still a very early first draft, so I'm expecting a lot of tweaking needing to be done, but I'm keen to get your input!

(please post your feedback in a reply)

Edit:
Just dropping some notes on features that the trade tool will have based on feedback:
- A buffer/filler to add to shorthand sides of 2-for-1, 3-for-1 type deals
- Output showing both total value and average value

Chat soon,
Joey

Feedback Needed: Fantasy Basketball Dynasty Trade Values

would love it if you could figure out a way to incorporate draft picks into this... that's always been difficult to find and obviously fairly subjective and dependent on league setup etc. but anything would be better than nothing

Andrew Rance

so, atm, it's not a system accounting for punting? so, roto rankings, essentially?

Ben Miller

I agree he is a better player than Jdub but wing perimeter players typically get more touches and shots.

BaconHouse Collective

It's using a formula using my dynasty rankings (which I do based on H2H 9-cat scoring) and the keeper crowdsourced rankings. I'll look to see how I can factor in positions when creating the tool.

Hashtag Basketball

Yeah, that's a fair assessment! It uses my dynasty rankings and the keeper rankings, and I have Chet a little higher, which is bumping him up a little in this formula.

Hashtag Basketball

Sorry to jump into your comment, but at every point of the season Chet has been the second most valuable player in OKC. His defensive stat set will always makes him leap Jalen.

is this a 9 cat roto? also, it matters what website it is because of the 2 C rule on yahoo meaning you need to draft C's higher than their isolated value.

Ben Miller

Makes perfect sense! Yeah, I was thinking of adding a buffer value for trades that don't have an even number of players. So in that example KAT is 75.5, it might add 10% of KAT's value as a buffer, so the evaluation for KAT's side would be 83.1 (would make the buffer optional).

Hashtag Basketball

Pretty well. The only thing I noticed there tracks with the first point that the future potential factor might be 1%-2% higher than I'd expect.

BaconHouse Collective

Hey! These are just just based on standard 9-cat rankings at the moment. How do you feel the numbers stack up when multi-player trades are done?

Hashtag Basketball

Great! Also, I had in mind that you can create some sort of value adjustment for unbalanced trades (2x1, 3x2, etc). Like KTC. Full honesty, idk how that works, but I know is a valuable way to see if a 2x1 is worth. Because, for example: Suggs + Jaquez = 77.4, and with that value you could get KAT, AD, which I don't see fair. The value adjustment could tweak that a little. Hopefully my words where clear, not native speaker!

My first observation is some of the youngest guys that aren't one of the top 2 on their teams (ex Chet) are probably slightly too high. They will be on their teams for 4+ more years and over those years are likely not going to have the usage required to return that value. Just an observation. Also should these ratings be irregardless of the rest of your build? How much should you drop a punt FT% guy in these rankings?

BaconHouse Collective

Thanks for testing it out! The formula I'm using to create these trade values use both my dynasty rankings and the keeper crowdsourced rankings, so the values will be updated (almost daily).

Hashtag Basketball

Been trying some trades and it definitely tracks with the values. I have two questions. how does the values adapt through time and based on what? And second, is there any chance you can use the keepers rankings in the formula to widen the public opinion on the values? Very useful tool, tho.
