Added 2024-08-19 23:59:59 +0000 UTCHey you beautiful people. How's your month going? Feel free to reply to the screen or post a comment as a response...
I'm either happy, sad, or other... but regardless, I'm sure tomorrow is another day.
Anyways, it's that time again for a situation report on the saga of Nero Walker and this Patreon. These reports are skewing further and further into the month, but I'll try to get them back to around the middle in the future. We'll have to see how it goes.
As for this month, I've been working hard to finish this arc. Nero earned his followers' respect, separated himself from the politics of the city, started growing his personal forces, and finally accepted why he was so different. When looked at it that way, it's been quite the journey.
However, this story isn't all that touchy-feely despite the glaringly obvious spiritual and psychological elements at play. So, Nero is still Nero. Even though he's grown as a person a bit, like a real person he's just refining his personality and becoming more at peace with who he is.
He's not a bad guy, but he's not all that nice either. It's been fun seeing him figure out who he is when he doesn't have the example of his friends and the internet to reinforce his instincts. He'll never be as nice and community-oriented as the locals, but his edges will slowly round out.
In the coming days, he'll develop his house's forces, or at least watch as they assemble themselves around him, and head into the mountain to confront the kobald threat. This arc will be ending when he gets back to Dorchester, and the next one will deal with the war for the mountain city.
I've been careful to not let the arcs seem so separated from each other, as I wanted to write a series that seemed more fluid and less formulaic. Nero's life in this world flows like a river, passing by points of interest, but never getting to its destination. Lessons will be learned, reinforced, proven wrong, and explored. But, Nero will always be Nero, causing headaches and confusing those around him.
As for other news, I've also been working on two other book ideas. One is the continuation of the magi-sci-fi story where the young boy gets sent out to the stars and learns what it means to be an adult. It's kinda corny, but I like the concepts I've storyboarded.
The other is a regular fiction book about the power of choice and our role in our destiny. It's a real-world story that you'd probably all hate, but I couldn't stop thinking about it.
Both books are theoretically more structured like a novel, so there won't be a series for them. It will take a long ass while for me to write them, but I'll occasionally mention them to give you updates.
For personal news, there is nothing to be concerned about. I'll still be writing this story, as I doubt I could stop even if I wanted to. I just love the characters so much and enjoy watching them going about their lives as Nero continues to throw things at them.
For the record, I'm really looking forward to the dwarves arriving.
As always, thank you all so much for supporting me and following this story. While it never took off like I hoped it would, I'm so happy to have people like you interested in reading what I write and enjoying Nero's story as he continues to putz around Oglivarch, constantly succeeding without really trying.
All my metaphoric and non-literal love,
-L.S.

This is literally the only story I've latched on to early, all the rest I dont even look at unless I can read them for days.
