Abney Park Update

It’s been a great summer so far! I seem to be, (do to my masochistic tendencies), writing both an Abney Park album, and a musical!

Let me tell you about the album here, then fill you in on how the musical is coming in a separate post.

The Album is fantastic. I’ve got about 8 songs into it, and it really sounds like the album is harkening back to the “Circus at the End Of the World” / “End Of Days” era of Abney Park music. My goal had been to write a full album of the kind of Abney Park songs that “stick”. The songs that enter into our live shows, and stay there.

The opening track, Return To Life feels like a sibling to songs like Out Of Darkness, and Your Escape. When my family heard it, my 18 year old daughter said, “this sounds like your Abney/Abba sound! I love it!”

The Subaquatic Opera is a hysterical fantasy song in the same vein as The Anthropophagists club, or Victorian Vigilante. So much fun to sing!

There is a romantic love song called Hereafter, which immediately reminded me of Peter Murphy’s Cuts You Up, mixed with a Morrissey song. One of my best post-punk songs to date.

When They Come For You sounds straight off Circus, the love child of songs like I’ve Been Wrong Before, or Till The Day You Die.

Flora and Fauna might be the sexiest song I’ve ever written. Its a metaphor about nature, told as the story of two lovers, who…well, you’ll have to hear for yourself. Hopefully this song isn’t TOO sexy.

…and there are a bunch more…all in all I’m very proud of this album! Your going to love it.
