But what are the ethics of talking about illegally stolen data? Do we have the right to pore over historically important information obtained through nefarious means? And, most importantly, are you a cop? On this episode of Retronauts, join Bob Mackey, Henry Gilbert, and game history guy Liam Robertson as the crew examines a topic that's as complicated as it is fascinating. Listen in and you'll believe that 2021 is truly the year of Super Donkey!

Anyone know what the song is that is played at the 32 min mark?

Thoughts inspired by a recent playthrough of some levels of Mario vs Donkey Kong which despite being a series about toys started out as a remake of DK94 itself, so it's hardly a weird intermediate evolutionary step for the sub-series

I have thoughts on the matter of public IP and contract work but I will not bother with that until I'm not on my phone. In the meantime a couple thoughts on Super Donkey. First, that music was in fact an overdub by the video uploader. As to the game itself, the climbing and Mario-plus-climbing game play makes me think this prototype is a link in the chain to what would eventually be GB Donkey Kong. Made for the SNES in the time before the Super Game Boy was finalized and probably using whatever in-between SMW and Yoshi assets they had on hand. Would explain both the title and timeframe; those blocks and poles are technically distinct from YI sprite work. Even the pillbug is unique art despite its obvious connection to YI. If they'd seen fit to have a map, though, it makes me wonder how big they originally planned Donkey Kong 94 to be...
