Hi everyone, Jeremy here with an earlier-than-usual advance episode. I'm working Portland Retro Gaming Expo all weekend and will be on a plane all day Monday, so I wanted to be sure this made it up on time.
This episode takes an angle I've been wanting to use for a long time. And we have, occasionally, but I want to make more of A Thing of it: Covering new releases with an eye for their history and heritage. Given Nintendo's emphasis on Breath of the Wild's connections to and inspirations from NES Zelda, it seems a great test case.
Note that this episode was recorded back in May (I've held onto it for a while to give more people time to play and minimize spoiler concerns), so a few things have changed since then. Guest Jose Otero is no longer at IGN but rather works at Nintendo now; his comments here don't represent Nintendo and shouldn't be taken as such, since he wasn't employed at the company yet. Also, that awful staticky noise shows up. We've completely replaced our recording equipment (including the computer we use), so this is an annoying relic of the past. Sorry about that.
I think it's a very good episode otherwise, though. If you enjoy it, let us know. We could take this approach with MANY games in the future — from Mario Odyssey to Assassin Creed Origins to Wolfenstein II to, uh, games that aren't coming out on Oct. 27.
