Retronauts Episode 96: Ghostbusters

Comments

Sorry but Garfield Venkman is the only true Venkman.

Bob Mackey

I greatly enjoyed this episode! Bob, I agree Extreme Ghostbusters isn't great, aside from some callbacks to ghosts like Samhain and the Bogeyman, but I'd still recommend you check out the two-part series finale, "Back in the Saddle." It brings back the rest of the original Real Ghostbusters and their voice actors (although sadly Dave Coulier as Peter). And I'm afraid the series *is* canon :-P

The whole series is now on Netflix :)

It fascinates me that Ghostbusters II got a 2600 port in 1992, long after anyone would care. Also nice to hear all the love for Real Ghostbusters' first two seasons. If they had a way to just buy those ones and not the rest of the series I would be all over it.

Wow. There's somebody in the world that loves Lorenzo Music as much as me. He was awesome in Twice Upon a Time.

Yes, except the last song, which is from the Genesis game.

Where does the interstitial music come from? Is that all NES Ghostbusters II?

It's simple: people love Ghostbusters, and bad games are fun to talk about!

A little curious to why you guys picked Ghostbusters as the games are mostly unconnected and nearly all bad? Still, you guys do a great job and it's great hearing Kat on Retronauts again. Like her I had the misfortune of owning Ghostbusters 2 on the NES and it was probably the worst game I had in my collection, tied with Total Recall. Shudder at the memories. I vaguely remember coming across Ghostbusters on either the C64 or Atari... The Genesis game does stand out more however. It was the first 16-bit game I ever saw, at a toy store kiosk, paired up with Capcom's Forgotten Worlds. Impressive graphics for sure, but I hated maze like games, so I wasn't completely sold.

This is a great example of why I love Retronauts, it's an episode where I have no interest in the topic but the episode is fascinating to listen to because the hosts are so good and present the topic so well.
