Hello and sorry for being a little behind again; I spent my entire weekend rushing through The Last Guardian for review. I realize playing The Last Guardian is not exactly living in state of deprivation, but it did mean I was unable to write and produce this episode until after that was sorted out.
This week I decided to put together a spoken-word essay on a topic we've mentioned in passing once or twice on the show but never explored in proper depth: Donkey Kong and the lawsuit filed by the company that programmed the original arcade game, one Ikegami Tsushinki. Hopefully this episode does a worthwhile job of explaining what all of that's about! It's a curious little corner of game history, one mostly based on a Japanese-language book from more than a decade ago, and the translation/abstract performed by the Game Developers Research Institute (fine folks that they are).
Apologies if you find all of this old hat; I'm hoping enough people don't know about it to have justified the effort. If not, well, please look forward to Bob's full-length episode (I think maybe on Sonic) coming next week...
