Chapter 8 weekly status report (10)
Added 2021-05-27 09:35:21 +0000 UTCHi everyone! The Alpha for Chapter 8 has been out for a few days now, but work on the update is still underway.
- I'm waiting for the proofread files before adding the reported bugfixes. There are a few things, but I'm happy to say the Alpha is pretty stable and bug-free. Since it may still take a while to get the proofread files and add the fixes, I'm making the Alpha available to +10€ patrons here.
- I've noted the criticism to a specific development of this chapter and will try to revise that scene and add some additional dialog to better convey the character's feelings and logic and hopefully make that part more enjoyable.
- I've also decided to add two additional sex scenes to this chapter. I thought about them while writing the chapter and it was impossible to fit them in the regular release, but as soon as I published the Alpha I started working on them. I finished the drawings yesterday and I've sent them to my colorist, and I'll start writing the scenes this week. Leaving them out felt like a missed opportunity. Hopefully I will add them to the Final release of Chapter 8, or maybe in a revised edition, since I also want to retcon a small bit of the earlier chapters, and replace a couple illustrations I'm not happy with.
- I've already started to work on Chapter 9, but there are a few things I've been putting off for far too long. I need to seriously look at publishing the game on Steam, creating a dedicated website and get a stable Android port. Non-creative tasks are a real pain in the ass for me and all I want to do is focus in creating the next chapter, but I need to take care of some "business" stuff too. I hope that doesn't take away too much time from my creative process.

2021-05-28 17:04:51 +0000 UTCSteam is good idea. BADIK attracted a large audience after getting a steam release, but that game is enormous. Each release is bigger than many finished projects. Pink is releasing it by doing "seasons" - I don't how you would divide ORS, but releasing each release separately on steam might not be a good idea, because the audience there would expect bigger games. Also, take a look at Japanese games released there by official publishers, like MangaGamer and Jast - they might give you some ideas for it.

The Discord channel and the Patreon could theoretically disappear for some vague reason, so having a website is a good idea. That's not counting for the increased Internet visibility for your games. I wouldn't put too much work into a website though. Just a copy-paste about the games, links to your Patreon, Discord and all stores where your games can be bought, and maybe a FAQ or something. I have no idea how well adult games on Steam are selling, but I'd probably split up the game into at least two parts, considering how lengthy ORS will be. I'm guessing that 20 euro/dollars are pretty much the roof for selling a VN, no matter how long or good it is. But ORS part 1 and 2 for 20 dollars each? That would probably work. And would a Steam release eat into the Patreon profits if you could pay a one-time fee for the game, instead of following the Patreon page? I dunno, but having the game in several parts would mean that the unfinished part can only be legally found through the Patreon ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I would love a new chapter every month, too, but as long as the quality is as great as it is right now I can handle the wait.
