Updated tier structure

If you're a patron you can access the opinion poll here.

So, it's time to talk about the tier re-structuring I mentioned in my last post. As I said, I'm going to change the currency I'm operating with from USD to EUR, and if everything functions as Patreon states, this should update the tier price accordingly. I'll also be tweaking the existing tiers and adding two new ones.

The tier structure will be as follows (every tier contains the benefits of the previous one):

All tiers grant Discord rewards. Members of the (now vintage) Inner Circle can keep their subscription active and will recieve the benefits from the 50€ tier at their current subscription fee. I'm planning to update the tiers next week, after the release of ORS Chapter 7 final.

So, as you can see, not a big change, but I think the rewards are clearer and better structured this way. You can get access to mostly everything with 5€, having anticipated access to updates up to 20€ and above that options for those who just want to give a bit extra.

The 150€ tier is a bit of an experiment, but I've noticed I should add a few background NPCs in certain scenes and some people have asked me to draw them in-game in the past. So, if you're interested in that, message me and let me know!

Thank you for your continued support guys, thanks to you the game keep growing and getting better. I hope we can keep this going!

Are you uploading the final today?

Several games are on itch.io with a "pay what you want"-model.

There really needs to be a site for free releases instead of just pirating sites. I dont like going to those but hey are necessary for me to find new projects i like to support or to keep an eye on. Many games I am on the fence on, but the ones i really like i try and support.

Since you're using euro it makes complete sense.

Would you consider also making public releases that lag behind the patron releases? One model I've seen a lot of creators use is that of free public versions being made available whenever the next major version is released to patrons, which personally I think strikes a good balance between rewarding patrons while still reducing the friction for new players to pick up the game and consider becoming a patron. Even for very reasonably structured tiers the mere act of having to subscribe as a patron at all is a hurdle to overcome and it can be difficult to convince someone it's worth it no matter how low the cost is, as the 'cost' of setting up the subscription and letting it run is a barrier in terms of requiring the user to perform the action of setting up and then remembering that they have a running subscription. I suspect that a significant number of people that would potentially be interested in your work are already or would be availaing themselves of "that forum" if they cannot obtain some sort of free version. Pros and cons and the politics of that aside, the relatively frictionless method of acquisition there can easily lead to people using that as the main or sole way they see news of updates, change logs and acquire new builds of the game, which pretty much drops engagement numbers via Patreon to 0 for the aforementioned crowd. Even a month/two month old free public release could be good enough for someone who is already looking at your Patreon page to be satisfied with what is available and download and play that rather than seeking out other locations to acquire the game. Subsequently they may then return to your page here whenever they want to look for updates, and each time they would be engaging with you and your content directly rather than via some other website, and each time they would see a big, shiny button where they can sign up and immediately get more up to date access by becoming a patron

Jase: That depends on how you've set up the payment processing. By default PayPal will handle the conversion and they will indeed charge a (rather high compared to the industry standard) fee. If you are indeed using PayPal then there is an option in the account management on their website to disable their currency conversion service such that your bank/card issuer will be the one doing it instead, which usually results in a lower fee. It's not a huge amount in either case on small transactions as there's no excessive fixed costs per transaction, but it's worth doing anyway as PayPal does not do a graduated percentage, so on large transactions it can be a significant amount of money.

Not that I'm aware of, the only fees Patreon charges you is VAT, all others are on me

Will 10$/10€ still have access to sneak-peeks and decision polls? Nwm. Those are included in a lower tier.

Looks good, and the move to euro is good for me!

Bold move considering half of the americans don't know what euro is...

Eva, I think this change is barely anything, and not a problem. I do have a very important question though. Will we Americans get charged a conversion fee? Because if so, I'll use a different credit card, one that doesn't charge me for currency exchange.

5 Euro is $5.98 currently so really you are looking at an extra dollar per month. I think the content at the $5 tier is worth $6 in my opinion.
