BC March Madness 2025 - Day 21
Added 2025-03-21 18:00:14 +0000 UTCIn a victory for felt freaks everywhere, the Muppets move on to the next round!
Up today - lots of charismatic movie stars of the 90s being hot, being in love, and being iconic.
It's Elmore Leonard Adaptations vs. Richard Curtis Rom Coms.
With Elmore Leonard, we'd cover a curated selection of four films:
Get Shorty
Jackie Brown
Out of Sight
Be Cool
With Richard Curtis rom-coms, we'd cover five very British romances:
The Tall Guy
Four Weddings & A Funeral
Notting Hill
Love Actually
About Time
So, what say you - Jackie or Julia?
Comments
As much as i love Love Actually, on balance i would rather watch the elmores. Maybe someday they will get Lindy West on for a special Love Actually only episode 🤩

2025-03-22 16:48:35 +0000 UTCAnd all the Brit jokes David could make (or be made about him)!
William Hanzel
2025-03-22 15:27:31 +0000 UTCThe wilder (pun unintended) is that blazing saddles and young Frankenstein were in the same year, so some could say that the blank check was actually the producers that initially bounced but cleared big time down the road.
Barbara Anderson
2025-03-22 13:45:40 +0000 UTCI voted for Mel mostly because he had one of the startling blank check runs ever in the 70s. Blazing Saddles was a big hit that gave him a blank check, and he cashed it in to make Universal monster spoof in B&W. That's a big swing. And then Young Frankenstein was an even bigger hit, so he cashed in *that* blank check to make an actual silent comedy in 1976. Absolutely bananas behavior!

2025-03-22 13:19:27 +0000 UTCBong would tell you
Jack o Diamonds
2025-03-22 05:22:21 +0000 UTCI honestly thought the exact opposite about who would cruise, even with Bong as a past finalist, I think Mel Brooks has actually never even done as well in March Madness as I thought he would, this year OR last time. I voted for Bong but my reading of Blankie demography has always been that Brooks is a lock for the final four, he keeps running into stronger headwinds than I expected and perhaps happily I can rethink at this point haha
Rad Rodge
2025-03-22 04:55:52 +0000 UTCI voted for Mel. I'm more interested in those discussions. History of the World Pt. 1, The Producers, SPACEBALLS!!! Ever heard of it?!
Matt Demello
2025-03-22 03:21:07 +0000 UTCMost shocking upset so far. I don’t think I was the only one expecting Bong to cruise to the final two. This opens that side of the bracket way up.
Harley Richard
2025-03-22 03:05:19 +0000 UTCIn other news HOW is Mel Brooks beating Bong Joon-ho?!
Olivia Haidar
2025-03-22 02:32:29 +0000 UTCMan, bummed Richard Curtis is behind- all fast paced and fun movies, and that’s what makes for the best commentaries imo.
Chris Almberg
2025-03-22 00:41:28 +0000 UTCBig same it's not about what movies are better is about what would inspire a more entertaining commentary, also an excuse to watch some movies I otherwise might never
David Figueiredo
2025-03-22 00:39:44 +0000 UTCI voted for the return of the UK bit.
Jon Arnold
2025-03-22 00:22:45 +0000 UTCEveryone voting for Elmore Leonard is out of their minds, this is reverse UK bit aggression!
George Seabrook
2025-03-21 22:22:46 +0000 UTCFinally a win! Still sucks we don’t have a straight comedy series. I hope next year we get American pie and Adam Sandler movies.
Good
2025-03-21 21:16:48 +0000 UTCHonestly, I'd prefer watching the Elmore Leonard movies, but I voted for the romcoms because I want to hear David talk about the British Christmas songs tradition and listen as they try to explain Love Actually in general.
Shane Rhyne
2025-03-21 20:53:40 +0000 UTCShout out to whoever's picking these matching images for each post, I'm always impressed!

2025-03-21 20:42:30 +0000 UTCI'll no doubt be put in the Tower, but only one way to vote.

2025-03-21 20:26:38 +0000 UTCThis is why I voted for the RomComs, for Tall Guy recognition.
Glenn Peters
2025-03-21 19:26:42 +0000 UTCI went on a cruise in 96 and this was one of 3 movies they played so I've seen Get Shorty soooooooo many times I absolutely love it.

colony of birchmen
2025-03-21 19:05:32 +0000 UTCAbout Time is one of the best rom coms ever made! David would totally love it.
Hadley Anthony
2025-03-21 19:04:53 +0000 UTCCould they please do the Elmore Leonard series, and then just sneak in the Tall Guy? It doesn’t get talked about enough.
Christopher Weithers
2025-03-21 19:03:22 +0000 UTCAww, neither version of The Big Bounce?
E.Z. Hart
2025-03-21 19:02:16 +0000 UTCGet shorty is going to be a fantastic commentary. 🔥🔥🔥
Good
2025-03-21 18:59:01 +0000 UTCI WANT Richard Curtis. I do NOT want to listen to David savage Love Actually.
Emily Scott
2025-03-21 18:57:07 +0000 UTCits a win/win .. Leonard means we get to watch some of my favs, Curtis means I get to fill in blind spots. GET OUT AND VOTE BB
David Rosenblatt
2025-03-21 18:44:52 +0000 UTCI really enjoyed that one!
Patrick McEvoy
2025-03-21 18:42:03 +0000 UTCHave we heard why they aren't doing 3:10 to Yuma (either version)?
Patrick McEvoy

2025-03-21 18:39:47 +0000 UTCI voted for Elmore Leonard this time...didn't I do it, baby, didn't I do it, baaaaaybeeee
Marty TC (child-sized Cardassian)
2025-03-21 18:37:18 +0000 UTCHow about a write in campaign for 1985s Stick? Directed by and starring Burt Reynolds with Leonard writing the screenplay based on his own novel.
David Draper
2025-03-21 18:36:08 +0000 UTCThis victory will be JUSTIFIED
Manish Agarwal
2025-03-21 18:34:26 +0000 UTCI voted for Jackie Brown. I want one of the most underrated movies to beat one of the most overrated movies.
ryan mcgrath
2025-03-21 18:27:25 +0000 UTCBy making them too good and successful???
Will Redmond
2025-03-21 18:25:50 +0000 UTCHas anyone seen 52 Pickup? I enjoyed the book but haven't gotten to it.
Christian Mayfield
2025-03-21 18:25:47 +0000 UTCThis is my real "do both" day
Will Redmond
2025-03-21 18:24:40 +0000 UTCYou’re fortunate not to remember Be Cool. It’s sacrilege after the fantastic movie that was Get Shorty.
ComedyCrowd
2025-03-21 18:24:19 +0000 UTCPirate Radio should definitely be on the Richard Curtis list. One of his best films in years.
ComedyCrowd
2025-03-21 18:21:25 +0000 UTCBe Cool is so bad; I recommend you switch it out for one of the lesser-known adaptations.
ComedyCrowd
2025-03-21 18:20:44 +0000 UTCCurtis would be fun, but just think of all the different directors and their contexts we’d get to engage with for Leonard.
Njord
2025-03-21 18:19:45 +0000 UTCTwo times with Jackie won’t kill us
Njord
2025-03-21 18:19:00 +0000 UTCLOVE seeing the Curtis hate here. :) I feel like he helped kill the rom-com....
Geoff Gershon
2025-03-21 18:18:33 +0000 UTCLove Actually is a cinematic crime.
Geoff Gershon
2025-03-21 18:17:14 +0000 UTCYes PLEASE Elmore Leonard - three of those are legit great movies while most of Richard Curtis' stuff is trash or mediocre at best.
Geoff Gershon
2025-03-21 18:16:30 +0000 UTCI wish "About Time" was "In Time"
Regis L
2025-03-21 18:16:17 +0000 UTCBe Cool the novel is ok, but the movie is terrible. Both versions of Shorty are amazing.
David Draper
2025-03-21 18:13:17 +0000 UTCVote curtis, they’re completely insane and none of them are boring
Jeremy M
2025-03-21 18:11:59 +0000 UTCinsane to not want to hear David talk about 90s-00s british ephemera at any chance we get
Marie
2025-03-21 18:11:45 +0000 UTCOne of my favorite movies of all time and I’d love to hear it covered on the main feed first but had to vote EL anyway
Jeremy Dankowitz
2025-03-21 18:11:11 +0000 UTCNot a big fan of the Curtis oeuvre, but any excuse for British Bits is welcome.
Hoot n Waddle
2025-03-21 18:10:24 +0000 UTCTIME TRAVEL ROM COM
Rachel H Smith
2025-03-21 18:10:22 +0000 UTCClearly gotta hold it off for a George Armitrage series, which... I would strongly consider voting for instead of either of these options. They call it Pod's country... until all hell casts loose!
JTA
2025-03-21 18:10:17 +0000 UTCI prefer the films in the Curtis library, but don’t want to listen to my favorite podcasters shit on Love Actually for two hours lol
Chad Perry
2025-03-21 18:10:05 +0000 UTCWhy would you assume we'd never get a QT series?
bearisonford
2025-03-21 18:10:03 +0000 UTCWe need to set aside Brown for Tarantino
Anthony Oleszkiewicz
2025-03-21 18:09:36 +0000 UTCSince we’re probably never going to get a Tarantino main feed series, I’ll at least get to hear #thetwofriends get to talk about Jackie Brown this way.
Maximilian Katz
2025-03-21 18:06:59 +0000 UTCI hate Richard Curtis
Colin
2025-03-21 18:06:37 +0000 UTCJust read 2 random EL books (Bandits, then Swag)... i love the vibe... let's go EL!
David McElroy
2025-03-21 18:06:34 +0000 UTCStill firmly on the Romcom train! Every time David gets to talk about Britain is golden, hop on y’all
Keira Q
2025-03-21 18:05:34 +0000 UTCpetition to include Paul Schrader’s Touch (1997) in the Elmore Leonard series
Daniel Hensel

Khar
2025-03-21 18:03:36 +0000 UTCI am now seeing Big Bounce omitted from this list? Clearly a mistake
Aaron VanTuyl
2025-03-21 18:03:20 +0000 UTCI want EL to take this whole thing. 3 out of those 4 films are classics. I really don’t remember Be Cool.
Jeremiah Drueke
2025-03-21 18:02:51 +0000 UTCSo happy to be on the right side of history. SOMETIMES THEY BIG BOUNCE, BABY!
Aaron VanTuyl
