Plus in terms of other talking points, just the actors alone: Depp, before the fall, Connery in "let's shoot this piece of shit" mode, Portman still finding her way, Weaving, Crudup, Wilson, Haley-Earle! You can never be sure, but this may be a hugely bit-rich environment!

Then they read the comic and freaked out because it’s unfilmable and full of content offensive to large swaths of America. So they watered it down to hell and Alan hates it and fans of the source material hated it and audiences were ‘meh’ and the finished product is perhaps watchable but mostly uninteresting.”

OF COURSE NOT that would’ve been a better movie and also Slater was like 35 at the time! Some part of my brain wants that movie to have existed anyway though

I went through them all for the first time a few years ago and was genuinely surprised by just how radically different they all were from one another in terms of their tones and settings.
