Comments

Will the Two Friends please find some way to cover BIG TROUBLE? This is a movie considered infamously cursed by most, but this is a family classic for us. Dennis Farina is locked in!!!

Sean Casey

Has Griffin seen every one of the movies that Peter Newman produced? (Dogfight rules, btw)

Matthew Conte

What 4k uhd blu ray players do you each have. Also just sound off in these comments

Gabriel Gauvin

Has griffin finally watched Slow Horses?

Garry Bonesteel

Could each of you quickly do an impression of the Harkonnen arena chant from Dune Pt. 2.

James Kane

You get upgrade one SteelBook in your collection to a legendary PlatinumBook. Which movie gets the upgrade?

Andres Ortiz

If you could show a movie to anyone in history, who would it be and what movie? Let's assume that if they were alive during it's release, you're specifying at what point in their lives you're meeting them at.

Donovan Lewes

Hey Ben, what’s up?

Blake Anderson

If you were to cast a white lotus out of guests of Blank Check who would it be and why?

Blake Anderson

Always love a tangent of the dong… What do you think was the best male nudity in 2024?

Blake Anderson

I'm sure this is a normal question y'all get a lot, but as one of the few women who listen to this show, when are you going to cover a female director next? And which female director would you like to cover?

Tristyyyyn

What director do you think could hoop??????? 🏀

Scott Dobbin

What is the most overrepresented profession in movies? It’s tempting to say advertising execs or bakery owners. Magazine editors. But at least those jobs exist. How many international assassins are there, really? Way fewer than there are movies about them.

Judd

1. Best year for cinema in the 21st century (can’t say 2007) 2. Why did Griffin pose the question of what ET is about when it’s clearly about ET finding his Keys?

The Hand Of The People

Are there any stories/conversations that you couldn't put in the podcast (but maybe you can tell this room of 65 people and cut it from the recording?)?

Nick

Which movies has your opinion changed the most since doing their episode? Changed either for better or for worse?

Chris Lopez

If The Last Temptation Of Christ actually got nominated in the other categories it arguably deserved (Actor, Supporting Actor, Supporting Actress, Screenplay, Score, Editing, Set Design), how tough of a competiton would it have been that year among the other award contenders? Which film should it have replaced in those categories? Is this the hottest Dafoe has ever been?

Ben Staub

For David (in real life) or Griffin/Ben/Marie (hypothetically) what is the most upsetting/adult movie that you would show to your children way too early because it's just too important? At what age is this happening?

Michael Lynch

Would you ever consider doing a Marx Brothers series on the main feed? I know they aren’t the directors of the movies and they have been on the bracket for Patreon before but I’m not sure how well the movies work for doing commentary over.

Anthony B

What do you think is the best movie that's never been mentioned on the podcast?

Matthew Conte

Rank the top five best food eating scenes in films please

Mischa Vaughn

Has boxers or briefs ever been canonically established in the pod?

Del Lorenson

If you were on a 14 hour flight from New York to Tokyo (sorry David), what would you watch to pass the time?

Andrew Spitzer

I heard your show has no bits. Is that true?

Devin L Robinson

You have a Time Machine and are able to go to any director at any point and give them a blank check to make a movie at that time (so with the cast, crew and technology available), which Director, when and why. For example you could go to Ed Wood and give him a blank check but it would be a 1950s sized one and he wouldn’t have access to modern special effects.

Leo Martin

What happened to the American Dream? Did it come true? Are we looking at it?

John Mckevitt

Mount slashermore? Best/most memorable kill from each of your picks?

Alberto Manuel Lamoso

who would the gang rather learn Transcendental Meditation from -- His Holiness The Great Guru Pitka, or modern day Dustin Hoffman?

Ty McClellan

You were saying about the Coens? 😏

Ditmarser

It’s still very much alive, it’s just way more “subtle” now/not really subtle at all

Ditmarser

I hope someone in here asked if we’re ever going to get the Mindhunter ep

Ditmarser

Do you have a favorite book, series, comic, or other type of media that you’ve long wished (or feared!) would be made into a movie? If so, who would you have direct it?

Mike Batz

What's your favorite meal to cook at home/ That somebody else makes?

Charlotte Langdon

Do you have any hopes for the Community movie ? I’m a huge fan of the tv show (minus the gas leak year) but cannot fathom à movie version of this , so many years after, that could actually work …

Alexandre Huve

Wallace and Grommet patreon series or stop motion patreon series possible at all???

Toe Tag

2010’s MacGruber is somehow the most recent film based on an SNL character, with the next most recent being The Ladies Man from 2000. My question is which recurring SNL sketches of the past 20 years have missed out on getting a big screen treatment that could have been really great?

KevynOnVideo

Just wondering if any of you ever listened to the Simon Mayo and Mark Kermode film review show and what you think of Mark's reviews? If you are planning on doing William friedkin then he would be an ideal guest on any episode as it's his favourite director

dlecktable

Maybe Jason Isbell? Adam Granduciel of War on Drugs would also be really interesting

Matthew Conte

Can we get about 1400 more episodes of Ben's choice?

Jonatli

Which director is going to make their “Fabelmans” next?

Benjamin Collison

What director currently holds the Belt?

Kevin

Do you notice your tastes changing over time? If so, how?

Damian Sherman

2 cents from nobody- I read it years ago after seeing the movie via dvd rental, and have probably seen it a couple more times since, its a fantastic and wildass movie that is also a LOT to handle from every angle; visual, audio, vocals, lighting/mood, emotional tone... It's what Gilliam does, and he does it *so* well that I like the idea of some of his films more than actually watching them again. It's a lot.

JC9000

when will you do a commentary for My Cousin Vinny, and If never, why? why not add more to some of the categories you've hit like "board games" .. there's still friggin' Labyrinth, Jumanji (obv the old and best one), and a huge one if you've never seen it is Mazes and Monsters, the movie that started the D&D Satanic panic and has Tom Hanks in his first film... absolutely bananas.

JC9000

did griffin’s french uncle ever end up listening to the podcast?

Willem Vander Ark

what podcast do you wish you'd get invited onto as a guest?

R. Grossman

It’s not particularly original, but honestly I just want to know how everyone is staying sane?

Sanja Ramic

Any chance you guys cover Danny DeVito's movies?

Spencer Pommier

Do you have another ten years of podcast in you ?

Mark Siwel

David, growing up in England, did you start to support an English football team? If so which English football team?

Tom Skobel

I’m so ready for the Patreon series. They should just jump into before it even finishes.

masonlusk

Great question. Who is yours?

masonlusk

We need to get BC crew in a movie. I really watched Guardians of The Galaxy 3 looking for The Hoz in every scene.

masonlusk

I am always fascinated by this.

masonlusk

DECADE OF DREAMS!!

masonlusk

I’d pay for a whole other Patreon tier just for this.

masonlusk

Great question.

masonlusk

David: train movies vs. subway movies? Are there more good subway movies than train movies? Are they each a distinct genre or part of a single railway cinimatic universe?

Patrick

Is "Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas" Actually A Good Movie???? I love everything about it. But I loved the book and HST's whole thing before I saw the movie. Curious about people outside of the gonzo world.

herb

You mentioned that Ron Howard had the opposite of a blank check career. Name five directors who have had the opposite of a blank check career. Runs less than 4 movies do not count. Arbitrary, I know.

masonlusk

My friends and I have this theory that Jake Gyllenhaal and Nic Cage, adjusted for age, could do any of each other’s movies e.g. Prisoners with a subdued Cage or FaceOff with Gyllenhaal turning it up. Do you agree and are there any other similar actor swaps you can think

masonlusk

What are your favorite books about movies?

Nicholas Korman

Will you circle back to the Dutch films of Paul Verhoeven? I forced a friend to watch Soldier of Orange and the Fourth Man with me. They're both really good. A new miniseries might motivate me to become a Verhoeven completist.

Jonathan Bryan

Are there any movies that have come up, or gotten shot down, that make you feel like too morally repulsed to be able to discuss them interestingly?

disk-kun, the mascot for the famicom disk system

If you could unsee a movie which would it be and why? Someone spoiled the ending to The Usual Suspects for me in 8th grade so I’d go back and rewatch that. Also Kevin Spacey can go screw

Josh Harvey

Disney's animated "Robin Hood" feature film is often credited with being a "furry awakening." Would you prefer to be a fox, a lion, a bear, or a squirrel?

longhornsteve

Maybe you’ve done it and I’ve missed it but would love to hear y’all talk music a little bit — any formative albums and/or stuff you’re getting into now?

Tree Palmedo

The universe is expanding; what is it expanding into?

Jason Nucatola

Is Ben Frisch professor Crispy? Also Gregg Araki miniseries when? I know he's not really a blank check director in the purest sense of the word BUT his movies are very queer and unlike the Luca Guadignino film, most are pretty good (I haven't actually seen Luca's film yet just like ribbing old Luca!) Anyway back to Araki, I'll settle for commentaries on the teenage apocalypse trilogy and "Kaboom" which is the unofficial 4th film in the trilogy. Thanks guys! Bye!

JP

If you could choose one filmmaker to direct an animated movie, who would it be?

Tripper Euphoric

If you could shadow one living director for a day who would it be?

Champagne and Gummy bears

I know it is the wrong timing for David but is there still a plan for the BC gang to go to a Disney theme park together?

Champagne and Gummy bears

Hey pals! I’m new to the boutique bluray/Steelbook game. What are your recommended vendors for purchasing, and what are your white whales?

Mimi RuthStiver

If you found a bag filled with lots money in the woods in an abandoned airplane how would you proceed?

Vaderhader

This is co-signed by my sister, Ansleigh, who refers to the show as "Blank Check with Pig and Ben-ducer."

McKenzie Davies

For Ben: How is Pig? I miss her cameos.

McKenzie Davies

Now that you've bagged the big kahuna himself, Mr. Davy "The Elf on the Shelf" Krumholtz, who is your dream Blank Check guest that you haven' managed to book yet?

Célèste Fohl

I saw it too! Hated the music they synced to Baloonatic before it, but thought R.E.M. over Sherlock was interesting.

Célèste Fohl

Do you think that's more likely than getting some kind of live-action/photo-realistic-CGI remake of Toy Story?

william hittle

And the Coen Macbeth

heather

Has David taken the Boss Baby to the cinema yet and, if not, has he thought about what age he'll take her or what film he'd like to take her to see? I took my daughter to Totoro when she was 3 1/2 and it was a great first experience at DA MOVIESH.

Célèste Fohl

Does Ben have any plans to use actual bones as a medium for his bespoke Congratulations creations in the future?

Célèste Fohl

A few years ago you mentioned wanting to do 1 animation director a year. Aside from Don Bluth who are some of the ones you are most interested in doing as you've hit on most of the Animation Auteurs

Anthony James Marshall

Has there been discussions to include more international directors in the future. Just looking for an excuse for y'all to talk about my all time favorite director, Wong Kar Wai. Or Hong Sang-soo. Or Aki Kaurismaki. Thanks! Keep up the great work!

Damian Sherman

Now that Best Buy has stopped selling physical media, where in the city of New York is a good place to get Blu Ray's? I'm asking yall because googling 'DVDSs for sale NYC' just recommends adult shop is chelsea

The Kacer

Can Griffin still eat pastrami?

Jordan B. Anderson

Would you be excited for a shot-for-shot remake of Toy Story with modern visuals that uses the the exact audio from the original film? A Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater approach, if you will.

Kyle Hilliard

what is your ideal x-men team for mcu and which characters would you most like to shoehorn into them?

Ian Benson

Ever wonder which movie(s) you've discussed would be more interesting if its story was retold from the villain's/antagonist’s perspective? *Bonus: background character's perspective?

D. King

Who will be villain(s) of 'The Batman: Part II'? Who might you like it to be, ala the rogue's gallery?

Scotty B

When is Blank Check ending and the Phantom Podcast returning? Also, what's your rank order of SNL movies, worst to best?

Michael Farah

I've seen some great puppets in movies recently: Onyx the Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls, The Vourdalak. Does Griffin have any less-well-known favorite puppets in movies?

Robert Draa

Is there an official minimum # of films a director needs to have for you guys to do them, or does it depend?

Tom Hughes

Dream director(s) & cast for additional Assassin's Creed movies in a variety of settings/era's?

Nikolas Rabogliatti

Godzilla$ vs. Bond$

Dr. Ray

Talon Lardner

What movie best resembles Ben’s childhood in NJ?

Nicholas Stabile

Bring back raised in England bit 😀

Will

Has Ben seen Animal Kingdom yet? The scumbums of Australia are waiting.

Will McLaren

Since you guys are about to embark on the Star Trek TNG movies on Patreon, I was wondering if that meant Griffin has now watched the entire Next Gen series, and if so, I’d love to know everyone’s favorite episodes.

Alex Sinesi

Ben, hows the gym going? Also, as a fashion guy, do you have any interest in/intention to make/construct your own clothing items?

Jon Holt

Odds on Branagh Shakespeare + Othello for Patreon? Insane a-list 90s casts that also do a lot to get people over the language hurdle just saaaayin

Jonathan Nichols

David this is more a request than anything but I know you have a lot of power over time and space and assume you are a Discworld fan. We know Griff was born to play Ponder Stibbens, you must somehow cause that to happen

Winson Paine

David: Did you finish Baldurs Gate 3 and who did you choose to romance?

MitchellAP

Batman Vs Kong?

Fred

Since you guys aren’t doing the Coen Brothers anytime soon… can you give hope to the ones who feel nihilistic about the direction of cinema? You guys just did Lynch and it was amazing, and I’m loving Spielberg. But also, who are the modern examples??? As someone who deeply values cinema as a hobby, and listens to you every week (bc I don’t appreciate bits), what/who/when/where/how gives you hope?

Lyle Sweppenheiser

For Griffin and David: Hearing you talk Spider-Man comics with Bendis was refreshing and sweet, and we’d like some more please. Are you up to date with the Spider-cuck situation and the rise of Spider-Man’s greatest enemy: Paul? If so, how do you feel about it and the post-One More Day situation?

Andrew J. Eisenman

I have an FMK for the boys with regard to retired bits: Richard T Joker Raised in England Fat Tittied Hit

Teddy K

For the gang: Is there any part of the show's process that people still aren't really aware of?

Hendoh Bendoh

Inspired by the discussion of D&D roles on the commentaries, if Griffin, David, and Ben were teleported back in time to medieval England (and didn’t immediately die of dysentery), what would their new careers be?

Adam Reiner

One thing you would like to happen with the podcast in the next decade?

Christian Ford

we’ve heard about Downtown Griffy Newms’ misadventures as a youth trying to take on the style/posture from certain movies, unsuccessfully But what about David and the Benducer? What films affected your personal style? Was it just a phase? Was it successful? - Ryan Iverson (I was head of the Buck’s Rock Clown Shop in 2000, so I think I missed meeting lil Griff by just one summer)

Ryan Iverson

Griffin (or anyone) I've noticed for years that in a face-to-face scene their eyes will dart back and forth as if they are switching the eye they are staring at very rapidly, but I've never noticed anyone do this in person. Is this something taught to actors? PS Griffin, what did you like best/miss most about New Milford?

Glenn Peters

Is there an overlooked contemporary director that you place money on getting a Best Director nom by the end of the decade? My money would be on Ben Stiller, Judd Apatow, Faverau, and JJ.

Joshua Brown

Is there an undeniable blank check director that’s neither journeyman nor problematic that you are reluctant to cover?

Joshua Brown

How did it feel to give David Lynch a fitting, moving send-off for his old and new fans?

Jason Feffer

Going through a re-listen; does griffin know how to pronounce aesthetic?

fred reed

Jeff Burnett

How would David pitch the Burger Report as a recurring column to his colleagues at the Atlantic?

Bill Adams

What is David's favourite Cinema in London?

Zachary Stein

What’s the process of the miniseries album art? Do you guys request which character you’ll be photoshopped onto? Does Pat Reynolds have you send him a selfie at a certain angle so he can match you onto a character’s body more easily? Or does he work with whatever photos are out there of you? And how does he even go about doing the art for the animation directors?!

Jeff Burnett

If you were forced to pick a method of death from the Final Destination series as the way for you to shuffle off this mortal coil – which would you choose?

Jeff Burnett

Griffin (and anyone else who feels they have an answer), if the Truman Show were real, and you had no moral objections to joining “the cast” of the show, what role in that town would you want? (i.e. Truman’s co-worker, friend, neighbor, or someone far off in the background, etc.)

Jeff Burnett

When the AI machines take over, who has what role on BC’s Nebuchadnezzar ship? Who pilots? Who welds? Who’s the operator? And who is The One?

Matthew Park

For everyone but most likely Griffin - what is your process/resources for finding blurays. Are there news letters i should be following? I get overwhelmed by the vastness of the internet so i am not sure where to start building my collection again. I used to get most my movies in the 3 for $20 bin at Blockbuster.

Lizzy Tiritilli

Griffin: as an actor, what's something you wish non-actors knew? Any performances that everyone hates but you think are great?

Eve Asher

Daniel Moroz

A musician that has not yet scored/soundtracked a film that you would like to see take a crack at it?

Matthew Conte

Oh man, they should be on the upcoming Withnail and I disc. That movie needs their insight into being two friends.

BENJAMIN SHULTZ

Is “Aspen Extreme” going to be the amuse-bouche episode to highlight Peter Berg’s acting career when they finally get to his films in 2051?

Colin

RSVP’d to hopefully be there, but froze up when prompted with a question at the time of submission, so I’ll wisely use this opportunity to ask: think there’s any more juice in the “Limitless” IP? Like a reboot about a new guy who takes a “Limitless” pill and does some more Limitless stuff? Or was that movie (and show. Can’t forget the show) the last hurrah of the magic pill genre?

Evan Radigan

Disregard everything we’ve heard about Toy Story 5. Griffin is now writing AND casting it. What will he do?

Alex

when his kids are grown and out of the house, one assumes

Rob

I just purchased 4K/Blu-Ray/digital download Steelbook for Madam Web, what’s next for me?

Josh Darby

You’ve had Katy, You’ve had David, and You’ve had Patches all on the show. But, during your decade of dreams will you finally finish the FitWR connect 4 and have Da7e Gonzalez on the show????

Josh Darby

Anybody seen A Gnome Named Gnorm?

Alabama Arkansas

If you could be an on-disc special feature for only one Criterion release, which film would you choose?

John Thomas Glenn Lowery

Jake Viaene

Just imagine him talking about the (x) train that goes from (x) to (x) and takes (x) days

Hogan

David, since Hollywood is now mining video games for IP to adapt, what noteworthy games do you think they should adapt into movies instead of the hottest slop on the market?

jorgamund

Would listen to a full ep that is just David talking trains

Lowen Baumgarten

Great question: what was the blank check moment of Blank Check? What was the guarantor?

Lowen Baumgarten

What's up with Vin Diesel's apparent struggles to get a new Fast and Furious movie off the ground? When, if ever, do you see the next movie happening, and what form will it take, given that it will end up being at least 3-4 years after the cliffhanger ending of the last movie?

Paul O'Regan

2024 was a big year for Giovanni Ribisi being covered on Blank Check, and since 2025 will see the valiant return of Parker Selfridge and the release of somewhere from zero to three chapters of the American Saga, I think it would be fun to set up a Ribisi ranking on quality of performance in comparison to how *much* he's doing in the movie. The Ribisi movies covered are Avatar, Avatar: The Way of Water, Basic, The Gift, Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 1, Lost Highway, The Postman, Public Enemies, and Saving Private Ryan

Kyle Faber

What is David’s take on pizza in the UK?

Caleb O'Brien

Griffin, is Amelia from Doughboys as cool as she seems on the show?

Douglas “Scoop” Reinhardt

David….do you have a dream train ride in the world that you’d want to take one day? I recently did the Rocky Mountaineer from Vancouver to Banff and it’s a bucket list item for a lot of train weirdos. Wondering if you have one!

Hogan

What is your favorite production company/studio intro video?

Hogan

i’m sure it was

Hogan

Benjamin Adgate

Whole gang: What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever witnessed (or had happen to you) in a movie theatre?! 😘 Scott & Katerina

Haunted Screen

David: What's your ideal Animorphs adaption? Who's the director if it's a movie, or showrunner if it's a tv series? Griffin: What contemporary author would you most like to narrate an audiobook for?

Brendan Ford

I know there are way too many directors out there to ever redo a full miniseries. But if you had to redo one, who would you pick? (Can be either because you think you didn’t do it full justice the first time or you just want to revisit all the movies and record episodes on them with more perspective?)

Curt Weiler

When will we hear David's video game podcast

Owen Phillips

For Griffin: have you ever considered teaching Acting. Same Q for David, have you ever thought about teaching writing, particularly about film? For Ben: just tell us if the steak was more than $275, pleeeeaaase! The Blankies need to know, particularly, those of us who were Servers in NYC back in the day.

Scott Carberry

If you could do a do-over on any episode, main feed or Patreon, which would you choose and why?

Daniel Jacobsen

For Griffin- what was the audition you got during COVID for the show that was supposed to be the ‘next game of thrones’? I’ve been wondering for years since there’s now a few that could have been pitched that way…

Tony Beasley

You’re in charge of a studio, and your first goal is to bring back the theatrical comedy. Who are the five actors you’re going after to lock them under a contract? Bonus for actors primarily from TV who you’re still waiting to try making the leap.

Joel Liss

Which of the Blank Check Directors would you want to direct your biopic?

Zachary Pareizs

If you decided to start another podcast that had nothing to do with movies, what would you want to pod about? Can be for any of the individual Blanksmiths, or the team as a whole

Jack

Rank the New York City AMCs please!

Wade Hollomon

For the two friends: who is the bigger texter ? - tom (Canada)

Thomas Dunbar

When will the #2Friends be joing Cameo?

Jeffrey Malone

Have you heard of or seen the “Silents Synced” series that is making the rounds at independent theaters? They put modern soundtracks on classic silent films. I have been waiting to show my three kids Sherlock Jr. until they could see in on the big screen, so I took them to see it last week here in Philly. It was soundtracked to Monster-era R.E.M. Two questions - (1) general thoughts on this type of project as a way to get people interested in silent films, and (2) what would be your ideal soundtrack pairing for the Buster Keaton classic?

Tim Collins

Can we get a live nickname catch-up for Ben (maybe with audience participation)? We still need nicknames for Barbra, McTiernan, Satoshi Kon, and David Lynch.

Les Chappell

Garmonbozia looks like creamed corn. What food do you believe is the best representation of pain and sorrow?

Christian M

Regarding Wiseau, I'm sure they're waiting for him to do a couple more films so they can give him the proper mini series treatment.

Johannes Wiberg

Are there any films that you’ve covered in years past about which your opinion has evolved? Which do you now find better/worse and why?

Scott Eckert

Are there any films (or entire filmographies or directors) that you've changed your opinion about since doing the mini series? For example, Griff was new to Miyazaki when doing that series, has your opinions on his films changed in any way since recording the episodes?

Johannes Wiberg

Would you ever consider doing an episode on vanity projects (Neil Breen, Tommy Wiseau, J Lo, etc) since by definition vanity project are self-written blank checks? If so, whose work would you want to cover?

Rachel Yoder

How soon until we’ll be revisiting another classic from the Porch?

Hedge

Are there any directors who have made a number of movies and who aren't on the Woody Allen/Polanki list, but you wouldn't do their filmography for whatever reason? The example that pops into my head for myself is Paul WS Anderson.

Matt Grommes

To everyone: what is your prized possession of physical media? The rarest, most OOP disc/boxset/tape/record?

Sam Schrader

what series do you guys think gave you the blank check to cover what ever directors you want? Are there any movies you wished you covered differently not because of backlash but because your opinion changed? Especially around oscars time I find I'm more positive on a movie then watch later and go what was I thinking liking this so much.

Matt Miller

What the fuk is up with Mr. Brooks? It's on Paramount+, i just discovered it! Kevin Costner climaxes when he murders people? Billy Hurt, Demi, Dane Cook... Marg Helgenberger!

Carter D.G.

How and when does the endless conversation around Marvel movies’ quality end? Meaning, when does the MCU enter the same zone as James Bond, Star Trek, Fast and Furious, and the like where we can stop debating the relative quality and just treat them like the disposable popcorn fare they are?

Brad Boron

newer blankie here so apologies if this has already been discussed but have y'all ever considered covering Luca Guadagnino? he's such a unique filmmaker and seems like the ultimate blank check director! if you ever covered him i'd die. love y'all!

Johnnie

Derrek Drass

Will we ever get The Barracuda back on the show? I miss her

Aeris Cody

Ross Eide

For David and Griffin: I recently relistened to the MCU commentaries, and in the Guardians 2 episode, you promised Ben that you'd buy him a nice red jacket if you couldnt get him cast as a ravager in Volume 3. Did Ben ever get his jacket?

Aeris Cody

How did your adorable and budding podcast and real life friendship with the ringer-verse begin?

Hogan

Who would be a guest you’d all love to have on that’s a dream that would work on the podcast as well?

Hogan

If you could go on a date with any movie character…?

Hogan

In your opinion, who is the most underrated, under-discussed or overlooked Australian filmmaker?

Thomas Butler

If you could only watch movies from one decade for the rest of your lives, which decade would you choose

Jon Nelson

What are the odds of getting a miniseries on Charlie Kaufman? I would love to hear the boys talk synecdoche, New York and maybe touch on his writing career meyers-style

Luke Sanchez

Have you ever tried to get a director you’ve covered to be a guest on the show?

Nate Goldstein

With the constant talk of sitcom returning (Modern Family, Scrubs, The Office)for reunion or another season. Should America sitcom take a leaf out of British sitcom and just do a Christmas special every couple of years. For instance Only Fools and Horses ran for seven seasons from 81-89 but carrying on doing Christmas special until 2003. A more recent example would be Gavin and Stacey with their recent Christmas special which got 21.2 million viewers. Do you think this could happen or is this just a British thing.

Daniel Bartholomew

If each of you could create a "filmography" to cover that isn't director or franchise-based, what movies would you choose and why?

Anthony Koval

Do you have any thoughts on what the final episode would be (hopefully many years from now)? My pitch would finally doing Ben’s King Ralph ep, just hanging out.

Evan Lewis

What’s a movie/filmmaker you are hesitant to cover simply because you think (or know) you wouldn’t like to have to watch?

Brian Dolge

If you all were to plan a weekend film festival what would you show, who would you book as guests, and what would the bits be?

A wizard has given you a magic DVD player that will play the director’s commentary for any movie that has ever made, even if the technology never existed in their lifetime. What movie and director would you watch first? I personally would choose The Great Muppet Caper with Jim Henson.

David: what are the most devastating father-daughter (or now father-sons/children) movies you've seen since becoming a parent? What about those films rendered you inconsolable? I'm a new father to a daughter myself. I was already a quick cry when it came to da movies, and so far I've kind of skirted around diving into parent-child movies for fear of losing myself as soon as the opening credits begin.

Drew Gorman

Which fictional character that shares your name is your favourite? ( Apologies to Griffin )

Thoughts on the Fantastic Four trailer?

Spencer Pommier

Question 🙋🏼‍♀️ I must ask Griffin. Do you have an Eidetic memory? Your knowledge of film rivals that of Sean Fennessey especially when you play the box office game! And please do a full series on the Muppets from the original series and all the films please 🙏🏼 I personally demand that you do after enduring David Lynch may he rest in peace but thank goodness that series is over and great job on the Beetlejuice Beetlejuice episode!

Alison R.B.

Which directors would you love to cover if you could just cherry pick like, one month's worth of films for the podcast, and not have to suffer through dozens of Not Great Films for months?

Yeah I know it’s against the concept but I also came to the comments to ask about a new releases Patreon thread. I’d love to have gotten their thoughts on some of my favourite recent films in the last couple of years

You just got a blank check: you can do a miniseries on one director but the only guest you will have for every episode is a different director, living or dead. Example: Spielberg does Lynch; Myizaki does Michael Bay. Who are you choosing and why?

Turtle from Entourage

Throughout all of y’all’s careers with it (both professional and personal as fans/enthusiasts), what are some core things about your relationship with film that have changed over the years? Could be regarding by stylistic taste, technical/craft interests, general philosophy towards, etc.

Eric Trapp

What is a moment in a teaser trailer/theatrical trailer that gives you goosebumps? For me it's either Alec's monologue over Prequel Trilogy footage for Revenge of the Sith's teaser or "Next Summer Walt Disney Pictures Will Present Its Next Animated Feature, What Follows Is The Opening Song That Begins The Story" in front of The Lion King's teaser

Sean Gillum

Krypto - yes or no? (I'm a hard "yes" FWIW)

You’ve talked a lot about video games but the only adaptation really has been Assassins Creed. I’m not counting board games as movies here. Can video games be adapted into good movies? Why is there always a struggle? Which are the most successful? What would you like to see attempted? (Maybe Sim City???)

Ross

I’ve been dying to ask these questions since they occurred to me several months ago!! Who was on your trivia team? What was the team’s name? HOW COULD YOU EVER LOSE??? And if you ever did lose, who did you lose to and those people should be guests on the pod (just a suggestion). On a sappy note, I’m a 44 year old mom and lawyer and I love this podcast so very much. Thank you for all the laughs. I’ve learned, I’ve cried, I’ve guffawed. More Marie episodes, please.

David — best nonfiction sports books you’ve ever read? Baseball and basketball specifically?

Cole

Been watching The Good Wife for the first time and have been enjoying David’s write ups (in season 5 so the end is nigh for the Sims recaps). What TV have you guys watched recently (sans Twin Peaks) that hits that sweet spot that TGW does which is expertly crafted in its own lane, not trying to be anything it’s not, but still being ambitious (What We Do In The Shadows I think was also good at just being straight up comedy, not trying to be something it wasn’t)

Sam Wieland

Heya! The 5 following BC directors have been Jury Presidents at Cannes: Spielberg, Burton, Miller, Campion and Lynch. From best to worst, who was the top president with the best Palme winner?

My guess is that it was probably a bit by Mr. Foot's parents, who presumably went to law school and are therefore not immune to making elaborate bits out of their own lives. Perhaps Griffin missed his true calling?

Douglas Wykstra

Of all the movies you have covered, what is one that you wish had a tie in video game? Or maybe had a better tie in video game?

Zach Mccowin

Hello Griffin and David! My daughter was born early September, and as a result she sat with me as I made my way through David Lynch’s filmography including twin peaks (this was, in retrospect, a mistake!) David - what is the most inappropriate thing you’ve watched with your young ones?

Jim B

After ten years of talking about movies for your job, has the fascination with film waned?

One piece of Ben Hosley lore that I don't think we've ever heard is about how he got into the world of audio production and started working on podcasts. Can we get a ProDoer origin story?

Matt Kazinka

David has talked about an old friend named Learned Foot. The only other Learned I’ve ever heard of is a famous NY judge and legal theorist, Learned Hand. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Learned_Hand The Foot is also the joke name for the TMNT version of The Hand from Daredevil. So this must be a bit, right?? You’re not known for never revealed, subtle bits. I must know!

Zachary Neeley

If you had to repeat covering the same movies of one complete year from the decade of dreams, which year would it be?

Mallori Longo

Your favorite book/graphic novel/game/etc. that you'd never want to see adapted into a movie.

Holden Martinson

I have heard David Sims mention liking Peter Strickland a couple times. I've always wanted him to elaborate because Strickland is a personal fave. Can we let the dog off the leash and hear David's thoughts and opinions on Peter Strickland?Do you agree with him that sleeping through a film is a valid way to experience it? Why is In Fabric not particularly popular among A24 devotees despite seeming tailor-made (pun INTENDED) for that audience? Do you have any personal relationship with Stereolab, Broadcast, Cavern of Anti-Matter, Cat's Eyes, Children of Alice, etc.?

DW

Have griffin and David ever had a legit argument during an episode that they later had to cut out? And if so, what was it about? And why was it probably about Griffin derailing the episode with excessive silliness?

I’m a big fan of Griffin’s gift-giving love language. Griffin, what’s the best movie related gift you’ve ever received, and why?

C Graham

How would you fix the Oscars?

Chris Berube

Is Griffin aware how often he uses the term "undeniable"?

Chris Aoyama

As a longtime listener and avid fan of the show, I’ve been in search of a way to make a personal, formal apology to one Griffin Newman. At NYCC in 2019, I was lucky enough to run into and have a chat with Griffin, only to end the lovely conversation by giving him the utterly wrong information that he was actually not where he needed to be for a panel he was moderating. I had to watch in horror as he left the hall frantically, only to return, sidelined and stressed only by believing the information I had provided. I debated whether or not to go apologize after the show, but decided against it due to unbridled shame. So, before my question I’d like to take this time to say: Griffin, I’m Sorry! Are there any episodes or even takes on films that you’ve had throughout the last decade that have haunted you? If so, what? We can all say I’m sorry together! Thanks!

Joe Brady

What does David think the relationship between critic and filmmaker should be?

Griffin, have you ever written or attempted to write your own screenplay?

Mostly a David question: What are the films that hit unexpectedly hard after having your first kid?

Steven Campbell

Longtimefirsttime here. Are there any difficult to find movies that you are really curious to watch (or rewatch)? Also, I’m sure you’ve given thought how to navigate the Charlie Kaufman/Spike Jonze/Michel Gondry overlap. Is Kaufman the Blank Checkiest of the trio to whom the other’s works will be subsumed or do you have a more sophisticated approach in mind?

Roberto Stadthagen

What shore town did Ben go to growing up?

Hello lovely people, Could you build your own Fab 5 out of characters/actors from the mini series you’ve covered? Obviously Gay E.T. will serve as the culture expert.

Would you ever consider a "Blank Check Origins: before the franchise" series for directors who have had the majority of their filmography covered in the podcast? Jon Favreau and Peyton Reed come to mind. (Yes this is my sneaky way of asking for a Down With Love and Bring It On episode. Decade of dreams!)

Sarah Farrell

You started the pod with a very strong preference for in person guests. That changed with the pandemic and largely persists to this day. Outside of the technical challenges (shout out to the benducer) what was the steepest learning curve for creating a tight show and what do you wish you had implemented sooner with some experience and perspective under your belt.

Long time, first time: what director’s filmography is the absolute worst fit for the show shows format? Thanks!

Anthony Mullen

First of all FIRST! Yahoo! This is tough since I haven't listened to all the eps I'm worried about asking something that's already been discussed on air but here we go: David, how'd you get started with film criticism? Did you have a blog spot or something similar back in the day before you were hired by The Atlantic? And were you always a comedian, or did your comedic chops develop thanks to you befriending Griff? Edit: lol by the time I finished drafting this there's been 50 responses so my "first" declaration looks awfully silly
