I’m 61, never saw Evita and whenever I come to a balcony or leading edge on a jobsite, I’m singing don’t cry for me

their job is to talk about movies

Pro-Doer Ben! On a recent episode you were talking to the guest about your annual Slow Christmas project and the idea of an anti-Chipmonks band, Sloths or Hippos perhaps. This is extremely my bag, baby, and a lot like some work I've been on recently. I just wanted to share for you to enjoy. Thanks! https://youtu.be/NwmG4T84RlU?si=8nrHn7uUggPUJiJ4 https://youtu.be/E0iHVMGBDi0?si=9PVq0lNXg_v9VOWz

I don't know. Did you read my comment or just jump at an opportunity to say what exactly? If you don't remember it, then what? Are you just replying to my comment to what end? Same as Zach Zweifler... Saying nothing on topics you don't know anything about is good. I would actually appreciate that, but that's not what happened. Asking communicators to be minimally responsible when doing their jobs doesn't feel like the craziest thing in the world to me.

Belen Battaglini

I'm pretty sure that was mostly the patriarchy reacting to a woman being both a challenging overt sex object and a powerful person at the same time. "Ego-driven and unpleasant" is a pretty vile thing to say about a person who you probably mostly know from tabloids who had their knives out for decades. But perhaps you know her privately?

Johannes Wiberg

David was iirc the only one mentioning it at all. Saying "I don't know" is ignorant but what would you have them say? They came for ALW not Argentinian complex politics.

Marie was the Madonna expert. What are you referring to?

Zach Zweifler

As an Argentinian listener with knowledge and love for politics and history, this was not surprising, but still quite disappointing. David at least has a bit more nuance, but some of the comments, especially from Marie, felt extremely ignorant. I'm not asking for much, but a min. amount of understanding on certain topics feels like the minimum if you put content out there for many people to hear.

Belen Battaglini

Goodnight and thank you Griffaldi You've podded your cast, what more could we ask of you now?

Matt Skoufalos

Truly, he worked it like a wookie

Matt Skoufalos

Several weeks in December. It’s on the schedule.

Also, B&B I had to watch with the sound down to sneak it. I grew up with The Simpsons as my primary obsession , but there was a very brief period where, after a joke about Grandpa patronizing a sex worker in the Unkie Herb episode, I was not allowed to watch it for a few months. That didn’t last.

Anthony Regina

It rang so so true. And when you’d ask your parents they wouldn’t even have a real reason. It was just weird disgust because the person had been around a lot. My mom’s big one was Bruce Willis. She didn’t think he could act and just groaned when he was starring in a movie. Demi Moore being linked with him at the time kind of dragged her along as well.

Anthony Regina

David just saying 1,000 global sociopolitical things that none of us dumpy-ass podcast listeners know the first thing about: “I don’t know anything! I’m just a dilettante!” Brother, own your expertise. I’m sure half the listener base has to look up “dilettante”.

Anthony Regina

Oh, absolutely. I grew up in a house very much like that. Madonna, The Simpsons, Beavis and Butthead, all the classic 90s parent-hate things

Michael Henley

Like real revulsion, not even like dismissive laughing

Rad Rodge

Truly the most accurate thing in the world is that parents hate Madonna, one of the few post-1980 music figures that I’ve ever really heard them express much of an opinion about and their opinion is disgust

Rad Rodge

One of my grandfathers collected stamps and I have STILL not heard anyone try to say “philatelist”

Rad Rodge

When Griffin is like “whenever the word is said,” I was discombobulated because I have NEVER heard someone attempt to say the word until this episode, not ever in my life, I’ve read the word many times but have never heard anyone try to actually say it ever before, where was Griffin hearing people say “philatelist”??!?!

Rad Rodge

“Don’t cry for me, Special Features” brought me great joy

Rad Rodge

My mom loved this movie and we listened to the soundtrack all the time for a year. I still remember seeing it at the Arclight Dome. The songs still pop in my head frequently.

Chauncey Telese

Jimmy Nail's singing career was launched after he shot to British TV fame in "Auf Weidersehen, Pet". The show also gave us Pat Roach who was the Nazi who takes a propeller to the face in Raiders, the head goon in Temple of Doom who gets crashed to death, and was deleted from the Last Crusade (Rude). Perhaps most significantly it gave the world Timothy Spall. The show was written and created by Franc Roddam who would go on create the popular cooking show MasterChef.

Left out of the Madonna v. Gaga critical reception to their acting: Gaga off-stage presents as friendly and altruistic, Madonna is relentlessly ego-driven and unpleasant.

I believe Che being explicitly Guevara is a Hal Prince idea so it is not like written into the score but was a directorial concept that some people continue to use.

So where’s the link to that cover

Great little play on words that Griff made that I don’t even think he realized. When they were trying to figure out the Sandra Bully movie and Bardi says “28 Days?” Then Griff just says, “Later.” Haha.

So what you're saying is he's not Che Part I, he's Che Part II?

Christopher Teuma

I was listening to the I Wanna Hold Your Hand episode, and I think it's important that Ben stumps for the The Beatles are your parents music crowd while David lives in the real world with the rest of us. U2 on the other hand require a further discussion. Brian Eno, Daniel Lanois, and Flood are integral to what you're hearing, but think of it like those crazy LED light shows they've been doing, that's a U2 move right? But it's not like they designed the lights or the lighting sequence. But it's a U2 artistic decision. Brian Eno doesn't always sound as Brian Eno as he does on Apollo with Roger Eno and Daniel Lanois. And Depeche Mode don't sound always sound as Depeche Mode as they do with Flood. Smashing Pumpkins never got that 1979 sound again. Where maybe Nitzer Ebb are fine with or without him.

Christopher Teuma

A lot of people don't realize that Guevara was born in Argentina. Perón came to power when he was an 18-year-old student at the University of Buenos Aires, and he left Argentina to become a revolutionary shortly after Eva Perón's death. It's one of those historical coincidences I'm sure Webber and Rice were pumping their fists over discovering--the failed revolutionary promise of Peronism escaping to other lands by other names as it dies in Argentina.

Douglas Wykstra

Actually in the show Che IS Che Guevara. In the movie version they changed it to just be like “Che-Everyman”.

This is perfect timing even if it is going to bring back strange ‘90s flashbacks …Like me just casually pointing out some minor historical facts the musical gets wrong to my then boyfriend and his failed film student brother flew into tirade about how nitpicky I was being (I wasn’t angry I was just making polite conversation).
