GoldenEye

Bond…the James Bond franchise will, moving forward, be an annual topic of discussion! Specifically, framed around each lead actor. BC:SF picks up this year with Pierce Brosnan in 1995’s GoldenEye. Topics include: the cusp of ‘dame’ status for Judi Dench, spy craft, personal history riding on various forms of transportation, childhood injuries, and more!

Movie starts at…19:56

Comments

How did they do 10 minutes on Dame Judi Dench and Griffin not address her being SECOND BILLED iN THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK

Gabriel Gauvin

There are so many Thai dishes without egg

Kyle Lark

Sorry but listening to you guys place your lunch order made me turn this episode off.

John Gregory

Napolean wasnt technically French. He was Corsican. An Italian island that was part of France at the time. So he spoke with something closer to an Italian accent.

Please save Checky lore for a higher patreon tier

Nick Ruiz

Isn’t that a gag in Good Place? Or maybe he just mentioned it on a Ringer/ReWatchable Pod?

Tyler Duggan

"Richard Sharpe's girlfriend/wife" is probably the only job as dangerous as "Bond girl." I'd rather risk the frozen ponds at Austerlitz!

Daniel S

The fact that his entire bit in that movie is being the most fuckable old man in town is king shit.

outb0undflight

It's wild to hear people talk positively about Reflections in a Golden Eye. Crazy film.

Billnetherlands

Think Poldark with lots of napoleonic war battles.

David Kirk

Sharpe was totally a bodice ripper. Richard Sharpe as the working class bit of rough would always end up with the generals daughter or Spanish princesses.

David Kirk

Watching Tomorrow Never Dies now. Michelle Yeoh is probably the hottest woman on the planet in 2023, and in 1997…. damn. I have David Simms levels of wanting to watch people kiss. On another note, my father and I went to see countless movies in the theater, but the only ones we dragged my mother into were Big Business, Titanic, and Tomorrow Never Dies.

Matthew Comegys

Zoooooooks!

David Reid

Not that Giacchino doesn’t execute well, it’s just not the concept that serves things I think

Rad Rodge

It oddly reminds of Rogue One in that way, especially since Andor my take on Rogue One is that the biggest mistake in the movie is going so John Williams with the music, you gotta go all in

Rad Rodge

I normally would not be too bummed about this but David was very wired in to how the Eric Serra score was so unpopular, and the tank chase stands out partly cause it was the time where central command was like, okay, we can’t do Eric Serra on this, we need to bring in a guy at the last second to give it a little John Barry juice! It’s a weird scene for music reasons

Rad Rodge

I need 10 minutes about how Hugh Skinner is Laura Dern’s yeoman in The Last Jedi

Rad Rodge

They do need to do the Mamma Mias and they maybe need to watch Here We Go Again twice, there’s too many actors, they need more minutes to have space to talk about everybody in microbiological detail

Rad Rodge

The Boyle series really solidified for me that I want David to just do a whole 90s British music podcast, I’m one of the subset of people who actually loves it when the fellas talk about music

Rad Rodge

RIP to Challengers being out by the time this drops

Chas

I so badly want Gourley to come through so the Blank Check crew can learn about the “Desmond Llewelyn’s hands” scale

Charlie Kessler

I’d be fine with a Lazenby-Dalton combo miniseries eventually

Rad Rodge

The good news is they do get a round two on JDB

Rad Rodge

This aaaaaalmost happens in The Americans hahaha, there’s definitely some Soviet hijinks in infiltrating agricultural labs and romancing their occupants

Rad Rodge

Yeah, I really think Craig is the only Bond with anything like a ripped build, it’s quietly the biggest difference about his look compared to other Bonds

Rad Rodge

For Marie Bardi - Sharpe's rifles is absolutely a bodice ripper. Sean Bean is at peak hotness. He falls in love and lust multiple times and it is very romantic and great. Do recommend.

Nicole Journal

In retrospect, this movie is kind of just a perfect intersection of every queer's types? Hot scary European lady, adorable tech geek, handsome daddy, Alan Cumming...

outb0undflight

Jason Manzoukis commentary guest confirmed. For some reason I know he has an egg allergy

Zach Terrell

I’m excited to hear the annual Bond news! I’m curious how ON HER MAJESTY’S SECRET SERVICE will be handled, though. A bonus episode would be easiest, but I personally feel that one of the best Bond films deserves its own commentary. …but perhaps this conversation can wait!

Alan Howell

Perfect Dark is such a forgotten masterpiece.

CT

needed more Joe Don Baker talk for my tastes. of course, this could be said of everything

ian

EuroVision he crushed it. Brosnan is hottest as a salty sea dog.

Jason Schumacher

Iowa shout out! I need a subplot where Bond infiltrates a Mansanto like corporation’s agricultural lab in Iowa and meets a gorgeous small town bartender from Anamosa. Please this is all I ask…

Jake Gittes

the iconic tank chase is literally a sandwich order gang

Seán Óg Murphy

This is the era of Bond I really grew up with, combined with DVDs of Roger Moore so I am feasting. It's all downhill from here!

Ashley Minor

I hope Ben got some Thai food for dinner that night

Korey Freeman

almost fell outa my damn chair

Calum Grace

This demo of the theme song by Bono and The Edge is pretty interesting to listen to: https://youtu.be/h9wwC_J24ao?si=lg8bj16kN6ztqY_N Tina Turner described it as “the worst demo”, but I don’t think it’s THAT bad.

Filip Boratyn

I’m going to order “an Old Mother Fucker” at every bar I go to until it produces an actual drink in return.

John Halski

Goldeneye on N64-great. Playing the Goldeneye levels in Perfect Dark- best of all time.

Kevin Durr

Just listened to this one a few days ago! Great ep.

FreakaJebus

1000 comedy points to Griffin for the singing voice comment! Do the Mamma Mias!

MoCoSwede

Grew up in the Catskills not too far from ace of clubs and it is local legend

Trevor

Gottfried john is not appreciated enough. Can't wait for the five year long main feed series on Fassbinder.

Billnetherlands

Mantzoukas inbound!!?!?!?!?!??

Kevin Fennell

Here's an aproximation of the trailers and ads that would've played before GoldenEye on its US theatrical release... https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/dk9sgmggpe1ntimk8kbva/01-November-17-1995.mp4?rlkey=yx36jiqyznrnihx6u9z2omhju&dl=0 And the same for the other three Brosnan Bonds! https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/gaxxwn3gb5ue9ww6tj8g8/h?rlkey=i25c3wra4tk5g5dlp3ahamwwc&dl=0

Robert Denby

Zooouuuukks????

Danrisulfr

So the secret guest has to be Jason Mantzoukas right? Only guy I know in podcasting with an egg allergy.

Fred Mercado

actually looking it up and at least in the early ones connery is pretty willowy too, i think it's a mixture of they didn't see bond as a heavyweight and also modern level ripped-ness wasn't the norm until like the aughts

disk-kun, the mascot for the famicom disk system

he and dalton have like exactly the same build, the only bond prior to craig to have a lot of muscle on them is connery i think

disk-kun, the mascot for the famicom disk system

Pierce is def handsome. And he’s quite trim in these movies. But does he look… strong enough? to be Bond? I know Craig brought the JB physique to a whole new level. But the other Bonds are sorta just… burlier, right?

Tyler Duggan

My man, you were just gifted with the news that Bond is going to be an annual occurrence and you complain about the order? Rejoice, for the World Is Not Enough ep will be worth it

Dustin

“Portishead is playing” 😂

Dustin

Most ppl think sweet spot for this show is 90s and 00s movies so they can talk from personal experience

Kevin Love Hewitt

Anyone want to tell Griffin about how during the preproduction of the cancelled third Dalton film that the producers contacted Disney about making animatronics? It was going to feature humanoid robots as henchmen. The podcast James Bonding did an episode five or six years ago about that “film” that was just re-released a couple of weeks ago and is worth a listen.

Joe Martin

*Bane voice* For you

Untitled Colonel Sanders Biopic

Best Sandwich nominee

Raphael Esguerra

Have to approve of annual JB but why PB this soon when his four films represent the nadir of the franchise?

Marshall Tolley

Nobody eyes it golder

Jordan B. Anderson

For England James?

Garod Wayman

My favorite podcast doing my favorite series.
