Listening to this made me so happy.

Roman Darkholme

“You don’t understand” 😂😂😂😂😂 it’s “I ain’t scared of you” R.I.P. Bernie Mac

Ancient alien

Jfc all the Oscar talk

Josh Mclane

Oh I'm from the UK and Barney Rubble is definitely genuine rhyming slang! Surprised the fellas didn't pick it up, now if only someone involved with the pod had a connection to Eng- *van full of men in balaclavas appears, bundles me into the back never to be seen again*

Jon Ryves

I recommend (re)watching Erin Brockovich next, floored me all over again how much that movie has not one ounce of fat on it. The casting, the colors, the costuming – all perfection!

KS

Dang! I swear, I leave town and everything closes. That's so sad.

Billnetherlands

PLEASE do Logan Lucky!!!!

fartinscorcese

Sad to report that Emmit's Pub (where Clooney meets with Damen in Chicago) is recently closed.

Larry Gayvid

What was that about the trains

Christian Purser

It’s clear that Blank Check needs to just become a Steven Soderbergh podcast, get back to the roots

Matthew O'Reilly

WHERE THE FUCK YOU BEEN?

Raphael Esguerra

Was just watching Good Will Hunting and Cheadle’s line about “Barney” might have real slang meaning. In the scene where Damon takes on the Harvard douche, afterward Casey Affleck says “been in a Harvard bar for five minutes and already run into a Barney.” Thought y’all would like to know!

David Tibbets

I’d love an Out of Sight sequel too. I believe it was Sepinwall that I read this from, along the lines that Clooney wasn’t super close to what Foley was in the books, but Elmore Leonard loved Clooney so much, he wrote the book Road Dogs as a sequel to the film, hoping it would get made into a film. So there’s already a story!

Kevin Loftus

“You had one job to do!”

Daniel Citron

Seconded

Rad Rodge

Not that I don’t also share some mystification about why he wouldn’t also still enjoy another big production with top-flight experts across the board

Rad Rodge

It’s an interesting dynamic cause I do wonder if the thing Soderbergh really values most is autonomy and directness, the ability to just do enormous percentages of the process all by himself, and that also manifests in speed but might not be the thing he most is pursuing

Rad Rodge

Ideally speaking we should all wear gloves before going to bed.

Jordan B. Anderson

i mean "time is money" as they say, and costs can balloon quickly, but i do agree with you: speed doesn't seem like the best metric to gauge a production

Jordan B. Anderson

I think the Sting as an Ocean's addendum episode would be fun - there's never gone be a George Roy Hill miniseries.

Brian

I get what Griffin and David are saying about how Soderbergh's priorities as a filmmaker have changed, but every time I see one of these old films decked out in every grace note of Hollywood filmmaking, and then see one of his new ones stripped down to the studs, designed to be screened exclusively in venues so full of professional filmmakers that every audience member can hear an expert muttering that it's actually very difficult to do that in the number of days they did it in, I wonder if he ever feels like something is missing. Is it really that miserable to wait a few hours for extras to get into costume and designers to dress a set?

Douglas Wykstra

Never tried that technique when buying a car myself. Seems high-risk.

Douglas Wykstra

Agreed, a PbtA game like Blades would be perfect, because it's so much more about story than numbers, and Griffin and Ben both have improv experience. Maybe invite a few guests who are on more the acting side of things, David DMs?

Douglas Wykstra

“Nickel chips” refer to $5 chips! When the dealer checks the $150 for Ocean, she asks if he wants “quarters and nickels” meaning she’d give him 4 $25 chips and 10 $5 chips :)

Britt B

I mean like I know that’s sort of the same type of objection that people sometimes have to Ocean’s Twelve, it’s just the consensus is so wildly consistent about The Good German, I don’t know why

Rad Rodge

I agree, it seems like the only time since Soderbergh’s mid-90s wilderness years where there’s such a weirdly harsh consensus about “we usually like your stylistic exercises, Steve, but this particular stylistic exercise is unacceptably fake”

Rad Rodge

The camphor...

Marvin T Little

Fuck I love this movie

Marvin T Little

This may in fact be a perfect film. 10/10, love this whole thing, start to finish banger.

Ben Green

remember their The Keep rpg episode from back in the day, I think Griffin would absolutely devour a Blades game

Calum Grace

I’ve probably seen this movie more than any other movie ever made and I still love it every time. Did you catch my favorite piece of costuming where when we meet Matt Damon he’s wearing a hat with a hat on it? Chefs kiss, Steve is a funny genius.

Will Findley

I think the Good German is so good. Not shocked it bombed, but have always been surprised that its rep never improved.

Mike Ostrov

It sounds like the guys should play a game of Blades in the Dark. Get their heist kicks.

Donald W Pratt

rare one of these that I can listen to completely without the film and know exactly where they are and what's happening anyway

Danny K

Did he just say... cum bucket ? 😆

awww yeah, time to see one of my favorite scenes in the history of cinema: Bernie Mac talking about skincare
