Was getting scared you all weren’t going to bring up Jerry fucking Goldsmith bc this score is just amazing. You can listen to it and see the movie happening almost as clearly as something like the Jurassic Park score. Thanks for coming in clutch again Ben and bringing up the score

2022-09-22 14:13:08 +0000 UTCTerrible commentary for a mediocre movie. “I don’t want to be repeating myself”? Why start worrying about that now?

2022-07-13 05:53:12 +0000 UTCThanks for doing these, I forgot how good this first one was and how much I loved it as a kid! A quick Brendan Fraser-related story I think Ben will enjoy: as a six year old, I had such a big crush on Fraser after I saw George of the jungle that I named my pet bearded dragon George in his honor. A few years later, George went to live with my cousin in the deserts outside of San Diego where he could be in a warmer environment and more comfortable. One day on his afternoon sun bathe George wandered off, and we all assumed the worst. 6 months later (!!!) my cousin is working on his car in the driveway and George comes strolling right up to him!!! He looked a little skinnier but was in pretty good health and lived for like 5-6 years after that. Anyway, he was an awesome lizard. RIP George

2021-09-30 05:55:39 +0000 UTCAll the Kevin J O'Conner talk, plus the mention of Clive Barker made me think what a fun 3 episode mini series Barker would be. O'Connor is great in Lord of Illusions

2021-09-26 16:45:56 +0000 UTCErick Avari was a regular at my food cart for a summer. I never got to meet him, but my fiance told me he came by a few times. Love him in this film.

2021-09-26 04:33:17 +0000 UTCI don’t think it’s that Imhotep hates cats-it’s because the ancient Egyptians worshipped cats and he couldn’t bring himself to harm it.

2021-09-25 20:21:38 +0000 UTCLearning that The Mummy’s two principal Egyptian characters are actually played by actors of German ancestry is the new ‘Zorro & Zorro’s daughter are actually Welsh’

2021-09-25 19:51:16 +0000 UTCThe boys tend to over exaggerate the handsomeness of men, so it’s super refreshing to hear David flat out drool for Weisz. How could you not?

2021-09-25 18:23:53 +0000 UTCI can't believe I know this, but Omid Djalili did, accidentally, expose himself while shooting the scene mentioned in the podcast. As a gag, Sommers wanted to see the "crack" of the character's rear end and the costume department suggested that would be easier to achieve if Djalili wasn't wearing underwear. When Omid later tore off his shirt, his trousers slipped, and his nether regions were exposed. "I had to rip away my shirt, so they could do the CGI of the beetle," Omid told me when I wrote an oral history of the film a couple of years back. "But I got so excited I ripped away my trousers as well. I remember dying, and I just fell on the ground, and the director said, ‘Cut! His dick popped out! Why is his dick showing?’ There was a whole load of ‘What the fuck just happened? Why is he exposing himself?’"

2021-09-22 17:58:04 +0000 UTCBtw can we please just pretend that Blast From the Past is another Mummy movie and do a commentary on that? We have some of the same elements. Brendan Fraser, a man out of time emerging from a subterranean chamber, charismatic supporting cast, undeniable fun. 🙏🥺

2021-09-22 17:54:05 +0000 UTCThis was just a DELIGHT! Thank you! I loved The Mummy and Returns as a kid, and it was so fun hearing you all gush over this movie and the beautiful cast lol Looking forward to the next one. I never got through the 3rd one in spite of trying 3 or 4 times and oddly owning the damn thing. I’ll give it another go for the commentary.

2021-09-22 17:51:32 +0000 UTCCan anyone doing the live viewing with them confirm that Ben laughing at1:30:30 is because of Jonathan chanting “Imhotep” to get away from the zombies? Which is easily the funniest scene in the history of film

2021-09-22 15:33:41 +0000 UTCI remember watching The Mummy in theaters, not sure what to think about it in the first few minutes... Until Brendan Fraser's introductory action scenes. He fires his first pistol. It goes empty. He pulls out a second pistol. It goes empty. HE PULLS OUT TWO MORE PISTOLS FROM BEHIND HIS BACK! And I was like "Okay, yeah. I see what you're dOing, movie. I'm totally on board!"
