The Rise of Skywalker

And so BC:SF wraps up it’s series on the Star Wars franchise with our first remote commentary episode! Griffin, David, Ben and Ang separately together watched Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker.

[Warning: At the beginning of this episode there are multiple false starts of syncing the film. While normally being a “no bits” podcast the hosts requested that the errors stay in and be doubled. Please be patient.]

thank you

Gibboanxious

"are there big worms in Dune?" 😂 (41:00)

N/A Watson

Griffin praising Mandalorian for taking Star Wars to new places...just a huge lmao after s2-3

Jon Ryves

For future blankies — commentary officially starts at 6.20

GJ Roya

Long time listener, first time commenter. Griffen dropped a George Lucas In Love joke about Space Wheat and we're not even going to talk about it?

Pat Johnson

His ranking is objectively correct

Matthew O'Reilly

I know it has been a year and a half but I just wanted to remind everyone that...THE DEAD SPOKE!

Kevin Merryman

Ben Hosley has a ranking of the movies at the end that proves he is truly our finest film critic. A national treasure.

John Harter

I dunno, I think the Knights of Ren’s ship is very van-like

Josh

Also, I wish the mice from Babe appeared under the X-wing and said, "Yeah, you cared for this once. Fuck you. The end." Instead, the yellow sabre, long-form birth certificate college prof's last name sequence... Fuck this lazy, rehashing, no stakes piece of shit! At least the Captain's charity went to good use, and you have another 2+ hours of a classic committed to this, the best film podcast out there! May the F...orget it

When Star Wars first came out, I was 8 years old, and saw it 8 times that summer by pleading my way into invites from family and friends. I bought a cassette tape of the movie replay and listened to it after school for literally years. Merchandise galore, of course, from childhood to adulthood. Indoctrinated my children into it. It informed my moral code, helped shape my value system, brought me toward some weird hybrid of Buddhism and the Force. Survived the prequels - more returned to them as a lapsed fan brought back by Awakens & Last Jedi. This movie practically destroyed a lifetime of fandom. I loathe it. I was like a patriot of Oz watching the screen fall. When you said it starts badly and loses momentum, it is an understatement. It was more like horrible to tragic. My youngest daughter and I could barely stop shaking our heads in the theatre. Your pod did not renew my fandom, but it did renew my faith in storytelling and quality film. Like the last post, it is the only thing that got me to rewatch it. The Band of Ren jokes and the crack about Angry Bird brought me more joy than any scene in the actual movie. Thank you for letting me share my disappointment with others whose critical response to it was something I could connect with and respect. I may listen to this pod again - I cannot say the same about this "film."

Haha! What's up, Liz! It's Collins! Hope you and your girls are riding out the covidining safe and sound! Cool to know a fellow Blankie :)

Well this finally made me start writing Reylo fanfic because this...this is not the way. Thanks for the commentary, it makes me feel like I have friends :(

Liz Davison

“I don’t know! What that something?!? Never mind, we don’t have time!” is a perfect summary of the feel of the movie.

Dan Faultersack

Griffin’s apple tv subconsciously not wanting to play this movie had me in tears😂😭

Ben, the patches totally worked for me. I smoked for 20 years and they finally enabled me to quit. Also I smoked a lot of weed when I wanted a cigarette. Good luck.

Forrest Lillibridge

It feels really good to be able to rewatch the movie with this, to hold it at arm’s length rather than have to just sit there and experience it unmediated

Rad Rodge

I wish they had waited a little longer to revisit this movie, so the distaste from the theatrical run wasn’t so fresh in everyone’s minds. Also, I personally thought the Diad was a good way to explain and build on the vision sharing that happened between Rey and Kylo in The Last Jedi

Bryan Cohoon

I don't know why, but Ang's random demands for kissing is just the best thing. Also, her comments to Admiral Holdo's first appearance in Last Jedi? Chef's Kiss. These episodes have been great. Thanks to the whole Blank Check crew!

Chris Baiocchetti

That's the move!

ChewyWalrus

I know they are probably sick of star wars, but a podcast series with the reverse bit of the originals, where they watch them through in release orders like Lucas planned everything that happened through episode IX, would just be the best. :)

John Bookout

THEY SPEAK, THE DEAD

Jordi

I want to thank Griff, Hot David, Our Finest Film Critic, & Barracuda for making my quarantine so much better.

Jordan B. Anderson

HeyHEY!

Jordan B. Anderson

I just watched this one again the other day, and kind of loved it. I hope they enjoy their second viewing more than their first; I found that knowing where the movie went contributed to how much I liked it (I wasn't mentally checking in with myself to see if I was enjoying it, which I tend to do on movies I'm hotly anticipating).

iamaparade

I am so tempted to have my first viewing of RoS be with this commentary track.

Thomas Dempsey

I’m so excited for Ben to meet Babu Frik.

Sammy

*begins laughing hysterically*

Jonathan Eby

You know what this commentary might be the only thing that can get me to watch this movie again
