Blog 4: A Brief History of Exiern: Dark Reflections (Part 1)
Added 2021-08-17 04:01:01 +0000 UTCWe're expanding on the previous post about how to keep the different Exiern universes straight in your head starting with Exiern: Dark Reflections. I know not everyone cares about this side of Exiern (as evidenced by some feedback which said about it words to the effect that "I don't care about Dark Reflections."). However for those who do at all, read on!
There's a couple of posts worth looking at here and here by Drowemos from back in 2010. We have to use the archive.org versions of themselves because the site has collapsed on itself more times than I can count (probably like Roman ruins on top of Roman ruins and so on).
We'll be coming back to these subsequently linked posts below later in order to go into more detail about the content as a whole then but for now, we're just looking at them in terms of Dark Reflections first.
The key part in relation to Dark Reflections was from the first of those posts:
"First of all the amount of “fan service” around here is going to drop off quite a bit. Not disappear mind you since I don’t really see anything wrong with naked people. And naked people can on occasion be hilarious. But I am done with random stupid reason to get people naked just to bump up revenues.
On that line of thought Dark Reflections is now officially dead. The comic stop being fun for me a long time ago and the fight to keep it alive is just not worth it. It was a noble experiment that had some success and some failure but I just don’t want to deal with it anymore."
Well, as history has shown, Exiern: Dark Reflections has been back for a while complete with the occasional naked person - well, I think it's only been Tiffany and Peonie so far if I recall correctly to be honest.
You may recall this Exiern promo for new readers and this Dark Reflections promo made as a companion piece for it.
These are also mirrored at TG Comics here and here. Please keep in mind TG Comics would be classed as an adult site and hence probably NSFW as a whole (probably also blocked by filters in some places at least).
On the upside, the interface might be easier to read (not broken up into separate Patreon posts, responsive slideshow format) and also no need to be a patron on Patreon in order to read them - some material which could be potential adult content has to be behind a paying tier because of Patreon rules.
The material made for TG Comics (or TGC for short) was to try and boost Patreon numbers and as seen on Graphtreon in September 2019 - it was the most successful measure we've had for some time. We know thanks to feedback that we definitely got some new patrons and/or at least readers through it that didn't even know Exiern existed beforehand.
It's also why we ended up with not one but two versions of Dark Reflections (Dark Reflections: Zen and Dark Reflections: Chaos). How exactly did that happen? See you here tomorrow for the second part of this different history to explain how that all came about!
