Hey monkeysuit, great reaction, btw here’s some haikyuu terms recap/stuff you sort of know: break: when the team that serves manages to score the point. It “breaks” the common progression of a volleyball game where the team that serves will concede. Eg. team A serves, them B receives, team B attacks, team B scores. then team B serves, same thing happens. example of a break is when team A manages to get a good serve and the ball comes back over(chance ball), and they attack and score. center/quick vs “left/wing spiker”: A quickset goes to the MB (usually) to score a point and avoid the blockers. It’s very rare for more than 1 blocker to be ready to block a quick, unless they see it coming (eg. seijoh final point). Compared to when the setter does a high toss to a wing spiker, where the opp team has time to set up a 3 person block. ***note: When the receive is “off”, most setters just use underhand or set it up high to their WS, and this is considered the “easy way out”, and also why everyone loses their shit when Kageyama manages to pull off a quick to hint from the back of the court/facing backwards aka “unfavourable positions”. *** break the formation/break through: when the serve disrupts the opp receiver to the point where they can’t get the ball “cleanly” to the setter in front of the net. Will usually result in the team forced to doing a underhand pass to the spiker (usually the ace/left), or in worse cases, they have to take an xtra touch to control it and use the third hit to send it over. You probably are familiar enough to understand what’s going on in the game as you watch it in haikyuu, but knowing the terminology a lil better can’t be a bad thing. Its also fun to shout “BREAKKKK” along with the teams.
