2018-05-05 18:54:45 +0000 UTCI heard the host city for the nationals gets an extra slot, eg. If nationals is in Tokyo there will be 3 high schools representing Tokyo, so there’s that. Btw another important thing, there are two main tournaments in a school year. The inter high, and the spring tournament. Both are very similar in format: the teams in the prefecture play in a knockout tournament until one team wins, and the relevant number of representatives get selected. In miyagi, you have to beat everyone and go all the way to get to nationals.

2018-05-02 03:28:33 +0000 UTCNekoma isn’t in Miyagi (Karasuno’s prefecture). for nationals, only a few teams from each prefecture get to go (based on the size of the region, no of schools etc.). In Miyagi, only 1 school, which is the school which wins the preliminary tournament, gets to go to nationals. In Tokyo, top 2 schools go to nationals. In a way, karasuno and Nekoma’s rivalry is very weird in a sense that they are not in the same region. Imagine your secondary school (I assume in Newcastle) being rivals with a team in London. Miyagi to Tokyo is a 4 hour drive.
