That and I was trying to figure out how to render some of the names in English for everyone since G Gundam is a nightmare with stuff like that sometimes (that's why I never tried with IBO names either). So, a little explanation:
初代 - I went with "Founder" for this one, though its meaning could be "First Master." Since he's from Neo America, Founder
創始 - While this could also be rendered as "Founder," other possibilities are "Creator," "Patriarch," etc. For this, given that the origins lie in martial arts, I opted for a Chinese reading of "Chuangshi." I'm probably way off the mark here with it, but it'll have to do for now.
Now, as for the names of the Gundams. All of them are very clear references to old movies, and if anyone knows Imagawa, he's a huge movie buff. So, when you take those movie titles and apply them to the Gundam names, I can't help but wonder if they're intended to be straight adaptations or something different. So, I opted for spellings that are basically "phonetically" similar to them in English (though one does have a Chinese spelling, sorry!). Gongxiao (named after The Gong Show), Pholomi (named after the film Follow Me!), and Rialgongfu (named after the film Real Kung Fu).
Given that the official Japanese site is taking forever to unveil things, I'm beginning to doubt whether we'll have official ENG renditions of these, so I'm open to suggestions going forward.
