[ESSAY] - Harutoshi Fukui's Take on Newtype

From the back pages of the Gundam UC Testimonial Collection: What Was Inherited and What Will Be Entrusted book (and reprinted in the Gundam Universal Century Memorial pamphlet) comes the lengthy discourse on Newtype by the guy everyone loves to hate: Harutoshi Fukui.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Using Gundam UC as a focal point, this book primarily discusses the Universal Century timeline of Gundam, but also extends its analysis to non-UC Gundam series and real-world media developments. Various authors, including writers, art critics, and researchers, analyze Gundam from their unique perspectives. The book also includes interviews with UC-related individuals and a history of UC's media development.

THE ESSAY

I've only been rambling about it forever and a day, but I finally wrapped up the translation of Fukui's take on Newtype in the Universal Century (up to Unicorn, mind you). Whether you agree with him or not, he outlines in great detail a lot of the motifs that Tomino laid out in previous works in quite a bit of detail. Whether this will help you appreciate older works and what he was trying to do or make you hate him more, I'm merely trying to help people understand better.
