My hope is anyone new to YYH who watches the Netflix live action will dive into the anime. It’s still on Hulu and of course Crunchyroll, so pretty easy to watch.

Besides Steven Maeda there was also Matt Owens as co-showrunner, and I think the one who talked with Oda first to get the rights to the show. He was on reverie twice too with most of the one piece creators. Also, I don't completely understand your point about property driven live action. They make money if they are good. They get popular if they are good. They don't take advantage of the existing fanbase to share it around if it's poo like Bebop. I'd say the biggest problem with hollywood is the massive 200-300 million $ budgets which means they movie needs to make 500-750 million $ just to break even. In the top 10 there are Avatar, Lion King and Titanic which are original properties, you don't need to rely on existing fanbases to make money, you just need something good and a normal, not massive, budget.
