FULL LENGTH SOUND OF MUSIC

FINALLY!! MY goodness guys this was a tough one to get up because of the length and amountx of space it took up. We're so glad we were finally able to get it done! LOVE YALL

Comments

I loved when you said, “I’ve got to show the kids!” This movie brings back childhood memories like no other movie I can remember. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if the two of you saw this as little children with your parents. Thats where the memories you have probably come from.

Nick Stark

Y'all should watch Singing in the Rain! Hearing you talk about loving these older classic films, the music and dancing.... Assuming you haven't seen it, there's a reason you've heard of it even though you probably know nothing about it. It's considered one of the greatest, I love musicals and it's one of my favorites. The songs are absolute bangers, the sets are amazing, and you won't believe the scale of some of the choreography.

Just one last comment to recommend another movie to you guys. After seeing how much you loved this film, I can't help but tell you, you two have got to watch Annie. I may have mentioned it before, but this reaction reinforced how much you would enjoy it. If you react to it, make sure it's the original, from 1982. It's not as old as this film, but it's still a massive classic, and it's set in 1933. I won't say more about the film, so you can be surprised, except to add, it wouldn't surprise me if you know at least one song from the film because of how famous it is. What a fabulous reaction, Jay and Amber. Loved every second, and it made my day, seeing how blown away you both were by the end.

Finally getting a chance to sit down and enjoy this reaction in full, after starting it several times only to be interrupted a few minutes in. Wanted to stop at the part where Maria and the kids are singing My Favorite Things and say this before I forget. Jay and Amber, you were trying to figure out where you know that song from. It could be you've heard it on the radio at Christmas time. By some, it's long since been considered a Christmas song. I knew it was, but not why, so I looked it up. Here's a link to an article I found that explains it. https://www.billboard.com/culture/lifestyle/my-favorite-things-christmas-sound-of-music-8078515/ Thought you'd like that, and it may help to explain why the song is familiar when you hadn't seen this film before.

Great reaction Guys well worth the wait. The year before this film came out Julie Andrews played Mary Poppins and won the 1964 Academy Award for best Actress. You and the kids will both love that. How can you not love Dame Julie Andrews great actress and amazing singer and still very much alive at 88.

Geoff Thomas

The lead actress is Julie Andrews, a huge star as far as musicals. Definitely watch Mary Poppins, another huge role she had around the same time.

The Sound of Music is in the top 3 favorite musicals (Annie and My Fair Lady being the other 2). I memorized the Do, Re, Mi song when I was 11 (loonnnggg time ago). Julie Andrews has been in so many of my favorite movies ... a LEGEND. In everything from Mary Poppins (SUPER-Cali-Fragil-istic-Expi-Ali-Do-Cious), to Thoroughly Modern Millie - To Victor/Victoria - to most recently in the Princess Diaries. I know you are aware this is based on a play about a real singing family who escaped Germany during World War II. The reason The Captain is so mad is that basically Austria rolled over and did not put up a fight when Hitler and his troops crossed the border (The Nazis first step in taking over half of Europe).

Watching the two of you react to this the way you did made me so happy! This movie has always been special to me. I was in junior high when it first came out (yes, I'm old!) and my best friend and I were Julie Andrews fanatics. Going to see this was like a religious experience for us. I have seen it countless times since. Amber was correct that it is based on a true story, although there were liberties taken. Maria and Georg had been married ten years before the Nazis invaded Austria and had had two children of their own together. All the money had been lost during that time due to a bank failure. To raise money, they began singing as a group, church and very classical stuff. They were quite well known. They fled Austria because Georg did not want to accept a commission into the Nazi army and they had also been invited to sing for Hitler, something they just couldn't bring themselves to do. Although they did not escape over the mountains, it was no less a perilous journey. They took a train to Italy and then sailed for America. Maria was pregnant again at the time with a high risk pregnancy which her doctor had advised her to terminate since her life was in danger. Being Catholics, they would not even consider it. Their son, Johannes was born the first American citizen of the bunch in the USA, and is still alive today running the Inn in Stowe, Vermont.

Still in the top 10 grossing films of all time. Even after 60 years.

Great reaction! Love the new format! Wanna see the real Julie Andrews and Maria Von Trapp right here on YouTube? In 1960 Julie Andrews appeared on famed tv game show "What's My Line." The 9 minute clip with her is called "What's My Line (1960) - Julie Andrews as Mystery Guest". She comes in at around the two minute mark. You can also see Julie Andrews appearing with the REAL Maria in a YouTube clip called "Maria von Trapp teaches Julie Andrews to Yodel". Keep up the YouTube search and you will find many references to the Von Trapps, including a documentary on their lives. (Amber, you mentioned Doris Day. See her Mystery Guest appearance on What's My Line by searching for "Doris Day on "What's My Line?". Just about every major celebrity from the 40's-60's wound up on that show and they are all here on YouTube.) Please keep these full musical reactions going. These mean so much to those of us who grew up with them. I was 8 when this came out and saw it then. Other musicals from that period? Of course, Julie Andrews again in 'Mary Poppins'. Also, the original 'West Side Story', 'My Fair Lady', 'Chitty-chitty Bang-bang', 'The King and I' and so many others. Again, thanks!

So glad you guys finally got to this one. Such a great old movie. And yup, very much makes you think of Mary Poppins as they both star Julie Andrews. You guys should check it out also.

Connor Fallon

I love how much you loved this movie. It's such a classic. I haven't met anyone who disliked this movie. Everything about it is done so beautifully

Joanna -_-

For many years when I was a kid, before VHS was a big thing, this was played annually on TV. We watched it whenever it came on. There were several classic movies that were played like that.

Argentos

“Favorite Things” “ where’s that music from?” It’s from The Sound of Music. Lol

Shutter Crazy

"Sound Of Music" was a Broadway show in the 50's. It was based on the Van Trapp family and how they escaped to America in the late '30's. The movie was based on the show. Much of the movie was filmed in and around Salzburg, Austria. People travelling Salzburg can take guided tours of film locations.

Niiiiiice! Well done guys

I love watching people experience this movie for the 1st time. It brings tears to my eyes all over again.

Thank you so much for going to all the work of making this happen. Plus it sounds like you had to learn how to work with a new format. (Yuck). Thanks again, you two make us smile every day 🙂
