WIPWednesday - the Necrocael

Hey Critical Crew!

We're getting the final touches on May's "Skies Rebirth" release, and we wanted to share this magnificent piece for today's #WIPWednesday. Check out this first look at the Necrocael and its lore below!

“...Necrocaels are massive, jellyfish-like creatures that float above the ground, normally carried lazily along the current, allowing their tendrils to drift through the air and snatch unwary prey from the sky. Necroaels will sometimes drift over oceans, snagging sea life out of the water, but they are considered most dangerous when floating over civilized areas, their tendrils grabbing civilians and hauling them up into the creature’s orifice to be slowly digested within its massive stomach. Necrocaels are unintelligent and exist only to feed. Most believe these creatures originated in the Hollow Expanse and were somehow transported to the Material Plane. While their life cycle is not fully understood, it is presumed these creatures reproduce asexually and that their eggs are microscopic, clinging to clothing and drifting on air currents. Once the eggs float over a large body of water, they hatch, growing quickly into the absolutely massive necrocaels, as large as most ships and capable of devouring Humanoids with ease….”

What sorts of features come to mind for this terrifying monstrosity?? Let us know in the comments below!

maybe the tendrils can shock them as they grab or or a paralyzing effect

I really like that lifecycle idea, I'll see if I can add that in

Maybe emits light patters that can charm their victims and leave them wanting to be curled up by the soft hairs of their tentacles. It is beautiful as it is deathly. Also their spawning egg points might be cities or towns releasing their cloud of eggs in the air and making their hosts that inhale this cloud find the nearest body of water and drown in it. Host being part of their reproductive cycles. This might trigger panic at towns and cities when rumors of necrocaels sightings in the areas. Or seen far in the distance
