Ushi-oni are horrifying fiends that frequent shorelines, dragging victims into their wretched lairs or beneath the waves to be devoured. In some villages where the residents worship The Dreamer or The Darkfathom, ushi-oni are seen as protectors of fishermen, warning them of impending storms or other hazards, but many decry this as a rumor spread by disguised ushi-oni at best, or a dark portent of the fiends working with powerful outsiders at worst.
