Not a rewatch. It was a first watch. IAnd I thought it was better than season 1.

Great discussion as always! I don’t have a way to watch 4K at home but I agree with Jason on the Special Edition. It just doesn’t look right today. I loved getting to see Star Wars back on the big screen in 1997 and the clean print is amazing but I have grown to not like most of the changes.

Way behind on my RFR so just caught up to this episode of the weekly show. Great discussion and I was happy to hear Jimmy rewatched Visions 2 and enjoyed it!

I have to disagree with Jason. While I will always love Star Wars more than Lord of the Rings, even I can admit the story/character arcs in those timeless perfections of literature will always stand out over Luke Skywalker. Frodo’s reluctant hero arc alone is more compelling from a story aspect. As I said though, I will always love Star Wars more.

RedDragon313

I certainly don’t. When I originally saw them in theaters I remember sitting there asking “why?”

Binged Visions season two today and yeah…. I liked it a lot. Would love a RFR show dedicated to a conversation about it. Bad batch was my favorite part of Star Wars 2024. The bandits of Golak episode definitely reminds me of that animation style, similar at least. And it felt very Star Wars

Luke

I hope they do. Why not? Other platforms offer theatrical and special addition/ extended addition versions of other movies like LOTR. More content is something D+ is lacking. They hardly ever put new movies and stuff on and the time between series drops is a huge wait

Luke

When I was a kid it was my least favorite of the three because the good guys lost. As I got older, I really fell in love with it.

Eric from Phoenix

I doubt he is “preventing” but out of respect Disney is t offering the original. I envision Disney releasing an original cut with cleaned up video / audio after George has passed.

Eric from Phoenix

I can never forget getting ushered into the seats when John Williams score erupted I looked up and...star wars!!!! For empire, I knew that was happening...so my real star wars love is new hope. But empire....is close behind.

Kenny

Just me then 🤣😅😂

Neil Dodsworth

You are so right and that moment, "we are going in full throttle, that should keep those tie fighters off our tail" still brings chills every time... the way they twisted in the air... mind blown.

Just like Jimmy, I remember being amazed when first seeing the X-wings open up, and my 11-year-old self also wasn't pleased when I saw the Han and Leia romance on the Empire poster (I figured that this was something to cater to my parents). It's so interesting how many of us big Star Wars fans shared similar perceptions. I loved the Angus MacInnes tribute; maybe I missed this mentioned on the show but another cool fact is that he also voiced Gold Leader in Rogue One.

Ben P. Stein

I prefer the unedited ep 4 for sure. That is pure magic and George got it right the first time. I wore out my vhs copy as a kid and then when the dvd age came along I honestly just didn’t like it as much

Luke

I like watching my VHS of an ‘81 TV airing best. It’s the version I grew up with and the one I’ve seen the most 😄

Marco

Is Lucas preventing the original theatrical versions being released on 4k? I’m sure they would sell plenty if they ever did

Marco

No, I do not prefer them, especially for A New Hope. I think some of the changes and additions were very unnecessary and cheapen the movie. The Empire changes are fine. Removing Lapti Nek and the Ewok Celebration songs from Jedi really sucks.

Turtle Wars

If they could remove all the Jabba-related changes (his appearance in IV, the added entertainment number with that goofy jazz alien in VI, and the Sarlaac's beak), then yes, everything else is an improvement, or fine. Oh, and take out Greedo shooting first, BUT KEEP MAKLUNKEY!!

Curtis in Omaha

In regards to Jason’s take on rewatching the 6 film saga. The 4K STAR WARS shows how “cheap” it is. Meaning George didn’t have the budget for a better stock of film like he did for Empire and Jedi.

John Phillips

Thanks again for the shout out, JMac!

Jeff Holland

Every time I hear people complain about the Special Edition, I wish I could insert the “The future is now, old man” gif into the chat You got to let it go, guys!

Pastor Yoda

🙋🏼‍♂️

Pastor Yoda

Does ANYONE prefer the “special editions”???

Marco

Loved the OT talk. Never grows old!

Peter Beisser

Let’s go!

Matthew Dillingham

Happy New Year everyone 🤣 Chut chut regulars. Any other 70s born kids struggle with Empire? The high I got with Star Wars and the utter sucker punch I felt at the end of Empire left me hollow. I just couldn't believe the film ended. For me even today I still struggle with it because of that original cinema watch. I love New Hope and Rogue One in that order... unbeatable.

Neil Dodsworth

Long have I waited. Welcome back, Flagship!
