East Indian Woman, in her 40s, intelligent and self-assured, she is the matriarch of the Pradeep family. An accredited surgeon & over-achiever who expects her children to be the same, she’s not afraid to give you her opinion because she knows it's better than your 'stupid' opinion. Having moved from India to Pittsburgh on very short notice, everything she knows about America she learned from watching bad TV. Hyperbolically convinced she has moved to a land teeming with homicidal maniacs and racists, Sudha finds evidence of her deepest terrors around every corner -- and her children conspire to help her rants/fantasies appear to be true. East Indian Man, in his 40s.  Affable and risk-averse, he is the patriarch of the Pradeep family and quiet shot-caller. A people-pleaser who uprooted his family and transplanted them to Pittsburgh to fulfill a contract with Spacex to build missiles, he’s the type who’s smilingly convinced all will turn out well in the world.  His glass-half-full outlook often leads to lost debates against his catastrophizing, hyperbolic, jet-fueled spouse whom he loves dearly. East Indian Girl, 17 to 19 years old. Troublingly independent, Bhanu is the oldest of the three Pradeep children. She's at the age where her mother's wise precautions and stringent rules for survival seem like exercises in sadism or hyperbole, or both. To her, the journey to America is a chance to get out from under her mother's thumb (which she feels is surgically attached to her neck), and her first celebration of independence is to get grindingly romantic with the Pradeeps' inappropriate neighbor, Stu.  Role involves moments of adolescent sexuality. [ KAMAL PRADEEP ]
East Indian Boy, 14 to 16 years old. Introverted and co-dependent, Kamal is the middle child of the Pradeep family.  An epic mama’s boy, he has anxieties and phobias for which his mom gives him medication. A bit of a straight arrow, Kamal loves rules and thinks narcs are just heroes who tell the truth.  In his own way, he has the harshest reaction to America. Tired of being misnamed "Camel," he withdraws deeper and deeper into himself until he simply declines to speak to or associate with anybody. Role involves moments of adolescent sexuality. East Indian Boy, 11 to 13 years old, the youngest of the three Pradeep children.  Vinod is cute and optimistic but a total dipshit.  He loves all things American but his way of dealing with bullies comes from his adoration of Gandhi, so he tries pacifism (which doesn’t always work). He has no clue about his mother's obsessive quest for social status and upon arrival in Pittsburgh, he does the most inappropriate thing imaginable: decides to become a garbage truck driver when he grows up.  After befriending a local trashman, Vinod has a brand-new American buddy, one who horrifies his poor mother. Storyline: The PRADEEPs are a family of five, all born in India and now living unhappily in Pittsburgh.  Having found the United States to be an inhospitable dwelling place, full of racist (but sexy) neighbors like STU and unspeakably ignorant officials who cannot pronounce a simple name like KAMAL, the Pradeeps are hauled in for interrogation by the INS after two years in this country, because their confrontations with their new neighbors have managed to reach the level where the minions of the law are interested in their movements...
