Logline: A young woman from a dystopian future society winds up in a reality-TV competition to win the hand of her country's prince.

"As fiery as her red hair; defiant as her namesake." In a futuristic society called Illea divided rigidly by caste AMERICA and her family are part of the lower "5" caste that includes artists and musicians. Desperate to elevate her family's status and help her terminally ill little brother, America agrees to participate in the "Selection," a Bachelor-esque competition in which women from all over the kingdom compete for the hand of PRINCE MAXON SCHREAVE.

Lead Male (21 - 23)
"With honey-colored hair and chestnut eyes, a fierce intellect that both makes him witty and keeps him guarded." The Prince of Illea, who must chose a wife via a televised competition known as the Selection. Though very sheltered, Maxon is a thoughtful and earnest guy, and as such he's very affected by America's criticisms and her support for social equality.

Supporting Male (20)
"Intense, irresistibly mysterious, handsome despite his tattered clothes." Aspen's boyfriend from home. They keep their relationship a secret because he is a member of a lower caste, and as such her own social standing will fall if they marry. When she decides to participate in the Selection he breaks up with her.. He joins the Illean Military Guard to elevate his family's status, and winds up being assigned to guard the palace.

Supporting Female (20 - 23)
A gorgeous blond. Another contestant in the selection, she's gorgeous and from a high-caste family, and everyone expects her to win. Maxon and KING CLARKSON are initially very taken with her, but she turns out to be backstabbing and manipulative. She's also the niece of GENERAL DAMIEN, who is trying to help advance her. Nonetheless, she advances to the final round.

Supporting Male (51)
Maxon's father, who is very adamant about maintaining the current rigid social order and wants Maxon to chose a wife from the upper castes; he also doesn't want to enact any changes benefitting the lower ones. As such, he's very wary of America and her influence on Maxon - he thinks Celeste is a much more suitable choice.

Supporting Male (45)
"The King's right-hand henchman, he is suspicious of America and doesn't want to see her promoted to the final round - especially as protests against the caste system are proliferating among the lower classes. Also, Celeste is his neice and he wants to see her promoted. He spies on America, eventually learning of her relationship with Aspen, and reports back to Clarkson.

Supporting Female (46 - 49)
"A handsome woman." Maxon's mother. She herself was a member of a lower caste, and has more sympathy for America and her political viewpoints. She does not like Celeste at all, and wants to help America get ahead in the competition. She uses her influence on Maxon and Clarkson to that effect

America's mother. She's very loving, but has her hands full with the family's poverty and STEPHEN's illness. She's very happy about America's good fortune, and the opportunities it's affording the family. She encourages America to stick it out with the competition.

Good-natured but ailing." America's father, who is suffering from tuberculosis. They are very close, and when Maxon learns of Stephen's illness and how much it upsets America, he sends his personal physician to look after Stephen. Stephen's health improves enormously, and he encourages America to stick with the competition because he believes she can make a difference.

The charismatic host of the Selection TV broadcast. He serves as the emcee and orchestrator of all the televised portions of the contest.

America's upbeat younger sister whom she's quite close with. She's very excited that America is participating in the selection.

"A buoyant beautiful girl." Another contestant, she's friendly andnirrepressible and takes an immediate liking to America. The two wind up becoming good friends, and America tries to help her succeed in the competition. She is promoted to the final round.

One of the two maids assigned to America at the palace, she helps America adjust to life there and prepare for the many special events. She also serves as a mentor to the other maid, LUCY. She and America wind up becoming close.
