Logline: An upbeat musical chronicling the hopes and dreams of an ensemble of American individuals, whose lives loosely intertwine around the Made In America music festival in Philadelphia. The story is centered around IMANI, a third-generation Nigerian-American, wannabe New Yorker, who returns to her native Philly to visit her dying grandmother, and finds herself on a journey to
reconnect with her true identity.
Roles:
[IMANI]
Lead Female (27) Black
Nigerian-American, a portrait of the intergenerational angst of immigrant families, struggles to balance her new identity (as a Posh New Yorker) with her Nigerian ethnicity and humble Philly
roots.
[MARLEY]
Lead Male (20 - 29) Black
Nana's next-door neighbor. Marley is a stoney freestyle wrapper who is the first to break through Imani's fa ade and act as her love interest. He is kind, authentic and a dreamer.
[NANA]
Supporting Female (70 - 74) Black
First-generation Nigerian immigrant, Imani's terminally ill grandmother. Her final wish is for Imani to return to her true self and find happiness. Traditional, with a couple of quirks up her sleeve.
[KARA]
Supporting Female (30 - 39)
Nana's home care nurse, a single mother that never spoils herself. Her true passion is dance, and she ultimately realizes her dream to dance as a backup dancer to the fictional popstar "Zoe," at the Made In America music festival.
[ALEX]
Supporting Male (30 - 34)
Nerdy, a DJ and Marley's music producer. Works to overcome his insecurities and ask the local barista "Camila," out on a date.
