Female, 3-5, White. Greek American with American Accent. ELENA is the daughter of NINA (played by Dakota Johnson) and her husband, TONI (who is Greek American, still to be cast). She is at an age where she is believably still using a dummy to soothe herself, although her Mum isn't keen she still has it. The character is quite outgoing and can be fiery and 'tantrumish', so we need someone who is energetic and will go there when we give them carte blanche, but also who can disappear into their own world so they just get on with playing/play acting in order to be natural and ignore the camera. Mostly the child playing ELENA can respond to what's happening, so she doesn't have to do lots of 'acting.'

Storyline: Adapted by Maggie Gyllenhaal from the Elena Ferrante novel of the same name. A psychologically complex story that focuses on a middle-aged divorcee called Leda (Olivia Colman, with Jessie Buckley playing Young Leda), who decides to spend a summer on her own. During her holiday she comes across a loud young family and becomes consumed by the mother, Nina (Dakota Johnson), and the relationship she has with her own daughter. After the child's doll goes missing, Leda is overwhelmed by memories of the difficult and unconventional choices she made as a mother and their consequences for herself and her family.
