#469 The Human Race’s Quirk

Why are these strongest immortals so passionate about developing new magic?

Maybe it’s in their nature.

To begin with, they were unsatisfied with their ordinary life and gave up being human to obtain immortality and keep studying magic.

Nothing is more ideal than to be immortal for hardcore magic researchers who want to continue their research without being limited by lifespan.

But for that, you must also be a high-ranking mage to become a genuine Lifeless King.

For such people, a new research subject would be exciting.

On the other hand, it’s only natural they feel compassionate toward the human race. Perhaps they have a hidden motive to help the war-devastated, godforsaken, outcast people.

No doubt Sensei has one. He’s just that exceptionally kind.

As for the Professor... I don’t know.

He’s... well, a cat, and I can’t tell what he’s thinking most of the time.

Or maybe that’s how he really is.

Anyway, the magic development project for the human race is being pioneered by these two.

* * *

“We first need to review the quirks of the human race.”

“Mhm, it’s an essential process to create magic that suits them, meow.”

I wonder what that would be.

“One that makes the human race superior to others is the amount of mana it possesses.”

Ah, they did mention that before.

“As living creatures, they need mana to carry out their biological activities. Every species has enough mana in its body to live a healthy life, but the human’s capacity is much higher, meow.”

While immersed in their discussion, a girl emerged from nowhere.

It was Letasreit.

She took a deep breath, straightened herself, assumed a martial art position, and swiftly punched the air.

“Hyah!”

The force her punch exerted transmitted all the way to where we were and smacked us in the face.

She could smash a tree to smithereens with that power.

“That ends my fieldwork warm-up! Time to tend to the beans.”

“As I said before, the princess has superhuman strength because she uses her body’s innately abundant mana. I imagine her talents blossomed as she lived here.”

“As expected of royalty, she has more mana than any other member of the human race, meow.”

True, Letasreit has become a powerhouse for some time now...!

However, this is also due to the said body mana, which is unique to her race.

Letasreit herself stubbornly insists it’s because of her beans, though.

“If only we could make good use of their mana.”

“I’ve been researching something until I stupid god Hermes butt in. I was thinking of creating new magic by perfecting it, meow.”

These two immortals, who are undoubtedly candidates for the world’s most powerful mages, are serious about making this a reality.

“I have an idea,” says Sensei triumphantly. “How about healing magic? Vital mana would go hand in hand with the self-healing powers of plants and animals.”

“Healing magic, meow?” reacts the Professor violently. “There you go again with your ambitious goals. The aim of healing magic is orthodox, but it is the most difficult magic to implement, meow.”

Seriously?

“Several Lifeless Kings have tried to develop healing magic, but they have all failed. Why challenge the impossible, meow?”

“Lifeless Kings can’t use healing magic because they develop it based on their magical power. How can an immortal rejuvenate life force using their mana as a foundation?” replies Sensei fluently. “A Lifeless King can absorb a dungeon’s stagnant mana and regenerate it as much as he wants, so he doesn’t need recovery magic. That’s why their research bears no fruit.”

“You have a point, meow.”

“But I am different! In order for my students to grow, I’ll show them we can make healing magic possible and easy to learn!”

What could motivate Sensei to do so much for his pupils?

“Um, may I ask you a question?”

Something has been bothering me, so I ask, “Did you not use healing magic once before, Sensei?”

You know, when you once healed the students’ wounds in the blink of an eye.

“Oh, that?”

It seems he remembers.

“That wasn’t healing magic. I merely manipulated time to make it appear the body never suffered any damage.”

“He just retrieves the body’s previous unwounded state, meow.”

Hmm...

I-I see...

Was time always so easily manipulated?

* * *

However, even Sensei knows best that it takes time to develop any form of magic, so they decided to start with the quickest method of using mana from the human body.

The human race’s abundant mana is used to strengthen the muscles.

This is something that Letasreit can do naturally, combining the power of mana and physical strength to achieve higher offensive and defensive capabilities.

Sensei had already analyzed this system, immediately developed a technique, and taught it to his students.

Our farm’s students are pretty talented themselves, so they quickly mastered it.

* * *

“Oryaaaaah!”

The human students overwhelmed their demon and mermaid classmates and won match after match in the intraschool mock battle.

“Everyone’s grown so fast...”

Sensei observes with satisfaction.

The human students, who have mastered how to enhance their strength with mana, closed in on their opponents with tremendous force, crushing their defenses and sending them flying.

The demon students didn’t even have time to use alchemy, one of their specialties.

“Eek! They’re too strong!”

“There’s too big of a gap in our power! We won’t last ten moves in close combat!”

They all tremble in fear.

“My demon students have no chance of winning if they’re meant to start the battle right after the signal.”

“Indeed. At least there should be enough distance between them so that they have time to cast spells.”

While the power gap could be bridged by using each race’s unique magic, in close combat, the human race has the ultimate upper hand because they can defeat their enemies before they get to cast their spells.

“It seems we need to revise the rules for the battles.”

I wonder what would have happened if the human race awakened to this ability before the war ended?

Sensei’s as impressive as always to create such a terrifying power-up method effortlessly.

“I think we can start developing healing magic at this rate. I would be more than happy if the world flourishes with my contributions,” says Sensei, still raring to go.

Maybe this farm might be the starting point for him to change humanity’s situation.

Oh, and, none of the human students who power-upped from Sensei’s lessons could beat Letasreit.

“Beans! Beans are the source of power!” she says. “If you want to get stronger, eat beans! Beans are what give you power! They are the champions of the world!”

Comments

Its still funny to see Letasreit go from we must bring back thr power of humanity to i must share the gospel of Beans
