Part of the need to step back was PowerDirector sabotaging my works-in-progress; every time I would re-open a file, it would delete some of the video segments (hence why there were black screen with audio moments in Village of the Damned). I have no idea what caused this: I tried reverting to a previous version, it didn't help. I tried changing drivers for my GPU, it didn't help. I tried pulling various tricks with it, none helped.
Finally I hit upon a work around. If I unlink the audio from the video and then place them in different tracks, nothing gets wiped when I reopen it. So that solves this specific problem. Still doesn't solve some of the other problems, of course, but I'm taking steps on that. I'll be putting up the SG-1 episode I've been experimenting on (Forever In A Day) later on. I'll edit this later today with a link if you want to see it early.
For a different workaround, I'm shifting some work to my older PC. This will require a few changes and some new equipment (for one thing, there are no speakers built into the monitor). So don't be surprised if things are a little light next week too as I try to get this sorted out.
