B5 and SG-1
Added 2025-07-22 12:16:58 +0000 UTCI'm doing some restorations this week because I'm getting a start on next week's Alien docs now. Alien 3's just needs to be recorded and edited, and I've started on Alien Resurrection and am almost done with the preliminary research on AvP. So here's some Season 1 Babylon 5, and the season 2 cliffhanger story with Hathor from SG-1:

SG-1: Out of Mind: https://youtu.be/1vZFSJBDazg

I'm aware that there have been some artifacts in some of the recent videos. As I mentioned, my last PC was more than five years old and was due for a replacement. The new graphics card was one of the 5070s, the new generation that came out this year (the 5080 that I wanted was never in stock, so I settled). It seems settling wasn't much better over nothing, given this problem and others. One particularly irritating one is I got a USB-C to HDMI adapter for my TV connection - the graphics card kept having unpredictable times of just blanking out the output. Just the output, I tested by running a screen recorder during a hardware test, and after it triggered I went back and there was no sign, so it was only in the output. But if I can't use it for an output, and it's leaving these artifacts, what good is it? The reason I didn't get these to you sooner is that I was trying various options to see if maybe drivers could sort it out. No dice. I think I need to speak to the company, it's obviously under warranty. Of course, that could introduce a whole new problem if I need to send it in to get looked at, I don't know if my six year old graphics card is even compatible with my brand new system, even if I wanted to fish it out of my other system, which I don't because as established I've deprecated some tasks to that machine.
But yes, expect next week's Alien stuff on Wednesday, at least the Alien 3 one for sure.

I hear you on that - my 5080 had been giving me random monitor dropouts for months - which I finally rectified by disabling my integrated / cpu gfx and locking my PCIe slot to gen 4. (This was in addition to a clean install of drivers, etc.) PITA, but it worked. Hope you get yours resolved! Moo
