So, main reason I wanted to drop a message here is to tell you what's going on. I've been mentioning for a long time about the (hard to believe) stress that this job has. Seven months of moving the show hasn't helped that. But I just had an eye-opening conversation which said that, medically, I'm 67 years old. Walking through that was what kind of brought home the need that whatever my impulses have been, I have to change.
Of course, I haven't exactly kept this kind of thing a secret, and you have all graciously been telling me where my priority should be. I admit it's always been intellectual, it's never really been a gut issue until now. I've been thinking about this news a lot the past few days; if I seem more stressed than usual, now you know why. :-)
After considering the challenges, I'm going to take some radical action. Things in the past haven't worked for me for long because this job IS what I do. I can't take the weekend off like a regular person. When I took my vacation in August, I basically just removed myself from my house so it was impossible to do my job for a couple of days, because if I'm here, I'm wired to work. I spent most of my vacation reading a book and playing on my tablet, things I don't do at home because there's always something that needs doing. Because doing that every weekend isn't feasible, I basically have to build a new habit to replace the old.
The plan is that for the next six months I'm going to follow a policy of two days on, one day off. It's small enough to be an easy cycle to work with instead of five and two. We'll have to see what that does, but things may have to adjust to accommodate it. After six months, the doctor and I can see if things have moved in the right direction and we can consider where we go from there.
So, things will be a little abnormal here while I get adjusted to things, but hopefully this will work out all right. Thank you all for your continued support. :-)
