An Engineering Fairytale: Cascade Failure at the Super Kamiokande

I needed a 'break' after the B-29 video so this is one of my rarer shorter videos. I'll be releasing it on youtube tomorrow or Friday.

But the version here has a different intro. The folks at the Kamioka Observatory were kind enough to let me use their footage. But they asked I remove the 'comedy intro'...which is fair enough. So just you guys get to see it. That is also the reason I am only uploading it to Patreon and not as an unlisted youtube video as I normally do for early releases.

Some of the rendering is a bit weird (blender turned off the denoiser for no apparent reason at one point), so hopefully that will be corrected for the youtube version.

Another entry for the error log smh

(I'm also wondering if I made a bit of a 'faux pas' because reading up on it, apparently it's designed for Chinese)

You know the meme with the guy from 'Office space' shaking hands? That's how I feel right now. I've had a few comments about it but I had no idea it was a Chinese/Japanese typeface. I just thought it looked kind of cool.

Okay can I say that using the classic "Japanese technical English typefece" for the titles is a GREAT choice here

The 'scapegoat problem' is something I always try to avoid when covering engineering failures....there are usually so many individuals that share the blame, it just makes no sense.

I really enjoy learning about particle physics & you're usually talking so over my head that I need repeat listens... but for a few seconds it almost felt like I knew more than you ;) ps it's awesome to see the human desire to find a scapegoat be overcome here

mmm dident think about that. It is almost like people get degrys about this

I’m going to add an annotation about that. It doesnt collapse all the way at first because, although its collapsing into a vacuum, the fluid is still compressing against itself. The dynamics of how it all works are really complex. Searching for ‘cavitation bubble’ may return some more info.
