I remember, on the eve of the 100KQ4 Challenge, saying that I was so happy I felt those nerves I used to experience before every November. That it meant this challenge would feel similar, would help fill the hole.
I'm very happy to say that I'm not experiencing the same anxiety around being behind. The November days I missed used to compound and that "word count needed" would track up and the pressure would build and build and build as I did my best to claw my way back.
Now I feel capable. I'm behind, yeah, but I'm not racing against a clock. (Not yet at least. We'll see if this feeling maintains in December bahaha.) I'm confident I can make up the words I missed when running around NYC.

Shout out to you, Juniper! Thank you for reminding me about The Ripped Bodice's Brooklyn location. We managed to sneak a visit in just before heading over to Wallis's book launch and signing. :)
Also we'd been on the hunt for her book in-store the whole time we were in New York and you know who had an entire STACK of copies? The Ripped Bodice! Of course they did. Iconic.
It was an incredible trip. It was so wonderful seeing Wallis absolutely shine and all the love surrounding her and all the supporters of A Dark and Secret Magic launching. It's just such a great reminder of how book people are truly the best people.
That feeling of a whole bunch of readers and writers gathered together really is magic.
And that's why I'm also happy to be home! To get to feel that magic again with y'all and our streams. I miss them every time I'm gone. I can't wait to hear how the first bit of October has been treating you guys since we had our kick-off stream!
Here's the link to today's stream. At 12:45pm CDT! Hope to see you there! (Or at the D100 Day Twitch stream just before. Or both!!)
Until then, happy writing!
