My fall "writing semester" & our final stream of July!

Hi friends!

Today is officially Day 7 of my 1000 Words of Summer challenge and I already have some ✨thoughts✨on this experiment. I'm excited to see if these realizations evolve while on the road. I can't believe I leave tomorrow to help my brother move up to Ohio! It feels like I only just got home bahaha.

Still, I'm excited. There will be lots of driving, lots of sibling shenanigans, and hopefully just enough to time to really squeeeeeze in those one thousand words.

But before then, we have one more livestream! TODAY, at 3:45pm CDT, we'll be doing some writing sprints, general chaos, and then I have about 15 questions for y'all as we discuss BIG MAGIC by Elizabeth Gilbert!

Finally, I've been letting the "back to school" vibes really sink in for me.

(I haven't been in school for years and, other than my brother moving to go to PA school, don't have anyone else in my life in school, so why do I still get the same little tingles as we approach August???)

Anyhow, inspired by one of my favorite writing experiments last year, I decided to add some "classes" to my Fall schedule. I also made a little check list to help celebrate. Some of these are simple, fun things (like starting a new notebook) while others were inspired by classes I once took (World Geography = Drawing a Map for my Current WIP, you get it!).

This "semester," I'll be taking:

‣ Bettering for Betas (previously Finish Your Damn Novel, bahaha),
‣ (Fun)ctional First Lines, where I'll be doing some research into my favorite opening lines and really work to make mine better, more immediately engaging, etc.
‣ and Back Matter Matters, with the goal to draft up the back matter for A Closet Full of Cauldrons (and the next two books in the series)

I'll brainstorm the syllabi while on the road and be sure to share when I'm back home and have typed them all up!

Until next time, happy writing!!

You should do an experiment with the "Most Dangerous Writing App" on Squibler (online). Basically you set a timer or a word count goal and if you stop typing for 5-10 seconds depending on the mode you're on it'll delete EVERYTHING. It is terrifying but boy does it work when I'm getting distracted

For hiccups: put a teaspoon of sugar under your tongue and let it dissolve. Pretty much always works. If it doesn't, try salt. I learned this trick from Diane Duane, and I've never had to try the salt.

Love the class names & the checklist! If you want any advice for anything (especially Back Matter stuff), let me know! And I didn't know you were leaving again so soon!
