If you could build your own, perfectly tailored "writing semester," what classes would you take?
Added 2023-05-26 16:37:11 +0000 UTCI'm not sure if it's zeitgeist-y or Big Magic-y or what, but one of my favorite things is when several people have a similar idea all at the same time.
Even better when it happens here on Patreon!!

Although this idea didn't win, I'm pretty sure the conversation below the post has convinced me to give it a go! (But for even longer than a week. π)

It's so funny, I'd been thinking A LOT about Wintering: The Power of Rest & Retreat in Difficult Times since I'd last read it. It's the kind of nonfiction book that just sticks with you, especially as the seasons change.

AND! I actually spotted it at the library (as I was taking a quick break from this post)!! I'd gone to pick up another book I had on Hold, with a similar sort of theme, so I'll let y'all know what I think of both:

So to see Maariyah link both of these ideas together, and to see Caitlin talking about her idea for classes and semester really got me thinking! And this brings me to my silly question for y'all!
If you could, what sort of pretend writing class or writing-adjacent class would you love to take? (Bonus: if you're actually taking REAL courses on writing or writing-adjacent activities right now, let us know what they are!)
It can be a Reading Classics course, it could be a Finish Your Damn Book class, it could be Poetry 101 or How to Market Novels on TikTok or whatever! What are the sort of "courses" you'd love to take in this pretend scenario?
Let me know!
(As of right now, I'm planning a Summer Session with 5 "classes." Two are going to be for my "minor" -- Reading and Brand Management. And three are going to be for my "major" in writing. Besides Finish Your Damn Novel, I'm also taking Short Story Submissions bahaha. I just need to think of a fifth....)
And quick reminder that we'll be doing our 2nd Double Stream Day TODAY at 4:30pm CDT! I wrote a strange poem based on our tarot prompts last time and this time will be writing the actual short story bahaha. I'll have to fit another stream in -- maybe the second week of June? -- to edit as planned!
Thanks y'all and happy writing! π

Perfect title for a class Iβd take: Write A Dickens of a Novel. I'm working my way through the novels of Charles Dickens...Iβd love to take a seminar on exploring the narrative structure of his novels
