Soldiers kill enemies in war yet we thank them for their service. What makes their killing legitimate and Dexter's not? In fact Dexter's rationale and outcome is often more legit than the soldier's as they're often killing a local who's defending their land from a foreign power out to take control of their natural resources like oil or poppy fields or install a puppet government to achieve geopolitical goals, whereas Dexter is killing truly evil psychos who've murdered innocent people and likely to kill more.
Killing people is wrong in general, we all know that, but in some situations like self defence or saving the lives of innocents it's justified.
