2022-08-04 07:39:35 +0000 UTCDexter has evolved to the point of human feelings in some situations toward those who're close to him, but who's to say that's not a result of adult interactions and an adult mindset? Perhaps a developing Dexter might not have had the capacity to form such relationships as his psychopath brain was forming combined with teenage hormones etc. If so then Harry did the right thing. As a veteran cop he's had experience with psychopaths, even when they're underage. He knew about brain scans associated with psychopathy and came to the logical conclusion that Dex was a psychopath biologically and instead of trying to fight who he is, the better path is to channel his urges into something beneficial to society, especially as Harry was disillusioned at the system failing to convict the worst of the worst. Harry did try to teach Dex to fit in and taught him care and discipline as well. I think what Harry meant was that he should've been open to Dexter forming more normal relationships growing up and that perhaps he could've fit in more and been happier, but going by what he would've seen as a cop it's understandable he erred on the side of caution. Besides as far as Dexter's creation goes, all is not as it seems, as you will find out in a later season :)
