HAPPY HALLOWEEEEEEEEEEENNN(er)

I know everyone’s here for the gay shit but I thought I’d bring something a bit different this month since I don’t have much to update on the comic front. Horror movie recommendations for the spooky season from me to you! :D Put into lil categories so you don’t get blindsided going from 1 to 100 getting traumatized also I may have already talked about some of these through the years butt FUCK IT go see them again, tis the season!

ALSO DISCLAIMER: do NOT watch trailers!!! Some of these have the entire plot and/or plot twists revealed in the fuckin trailers, I hate Hollywood

FUN TIMES/THRILLERS

(great beginner or party horror/thriller movies)

-Late Night With the Devil (2024) A 70’s talk show host decides to spice up his Halloween episode broadcast by bringing on a possessed little girl for an interview, always a great idea!

-No Exit (2022) A girl gets stuck at a truck stop during a blizzard with a group of people and discovers one of those people has a child trapped in the back of their ‘free candy’ van

-Speak No Evil (2024) The newest addition, still in theaters as of writing this so act now!! A family joins another family at their British getaway house but things start going all wackadoo, probably the best psychological thriller I’ve seen this year!!

BLOODY GOOD STUFF

(Just.. BUCKETS of gore and maybe some good ol’ dark comedy)

-Terrifier 2 (2022) Art the Clown terrorizes a town on Halloween. Just find a summary of the first Terrifier, this one is miles (county lol) better. AND TERRIFIER 3 COMES OUT THIS MONTH AAAAAA

-When Evil Lurks (2023) a weird curse/possession epidemic plagues an Argentinian town and two brothers have to save their family. Don’t eat during this one, trust me

-Evil Dead (2013) (maaaybe the more recent Evil Dead Rise but DEFINITELY the 2013 Evil Dead) a girl and her friends stay at a cabin in the woods and a demon book gets discovered and read aloud cuz horror shenanigans gotta shenanigan

FUCKIN TERRIFYING

(3 movies that made me shit and pee my pants at the same time I mean what who said that)

-Terrified (2018) A neighborhood is haunted by some supernatural shit and 2 cops have to figure out wtf’s happening (the kid at the dinner table made me NOPE out of my first watch attempt)

-The Vigil (2019) a Jewish man is tasked with watching over a dead body for the night but the body is all ooky spookified

-Lake Mungo (2008) a mockumentary of a family experiencing supernatural happenings after a daughter’s death (a bit old but that one fucked me up so bad so I’ve only seen it maybe 2 or 3 times total since it came out. Audience seems 50/50 on getting fucked up so best to watch by yourself in the dark to get the full effect like I did!)

..WTF WAS THAT

-Malignant (2022) my favorite horror movie of the last few years, I’ll recommend it till the day I die. Go in blind, you’ll come back and thank me later

If anyone has any recommendations (or hell, just what movie scares/scared you the most) let us know!!

Comic hint of the month: Oh hi Dane, you sneaky lil bitch

PW song of the month: Tragedy of Us by Miyavi (okay this song is most likely about breaking up but I picture it a good theme for Crick and Noah’s whole tragic relationship/circumstance at the circus? Whatev, it made sense to me 😂)

Wait, are you trying to warn us that this story is a tragedy? 😬🤔

Greg A

I have 1 friend who absolutely refuses to watch anything in the horror category including the original blob with Steve McQueen which, let's be honest, is more of a b rated comedy at this point

Stephen Muth

IN LOVE with Tucker & Dale and Cabin in the Woods! I’ve seen the first Wrong Turn but not the sequels. Maybe they’ll go on my to watch list!

Redmari

tucker and dale vs evil wrong turn 1, 2 and 3 Cabin in the woods Are a few of my go to movies during the spooky season

Chris Dryden

The best thing about old 70’s and 80’s horror is how off the wall weird they were 😂

Redmari

Cool, thanks for that comment! I think that has me persuaded! I hear the ending of the more recent film is a bit more positive (?🤔) whereas the original one is pure gloom - plus, with JM in it, I know which one I would go & see! 😃 I can cope with psychological more than with horror, so might be able to stomach it after all..! 😉

Kim

A good choice indeed!!

Redmari

Oh god McAvoy was the BEST thing about that movie!!! Absolutely recommend if you’re a fan of his and can confidently say it’s more a thriller than horror so you won’t lose any sleep over it! And yes, they did change the ending! I won’t spoil anything but I’m not mad at either! A YouTube review put it into perspective pretty well: the ending to both is so different it changes the purpose/vibe of the movie so I look at it like you get 2 different experiences rather than being a ‘boohoo they changed it’ person. (If you’re still unsure or have certain triggers you wanna avoid, let me know and I’ll DM which version/ending I’d recommend!)

Redmari

AH omfg I forgot about final destination I loved those movies!! Ur the realest bro I saved the list for later I'm so hyped 🥳🥳❤️❤️❤️ these look like awesome recs! 🫶🙌

Jade

I will be binging Buffy the Vampire Slayer

A

I love James McAvoy and have pretty much watched all his movies but decided not to see Speak No Evil because normallt I need happy escapism rather than scary horror - but now I see you recommend it it's putting me in two minds...!! 😩 Was he any good in it? What also put me off was that it was a re-make of a Danish original & apparently they changed the ending...? 🤔

Kim

You got it!! Definitely ones I watch every October/recommend are The Fly, Pet Sematary, Misery, The Shining, Child’s Play, Poltergeist, Creepshow, The Thing, and definitely the original It, just to name a few!! (A few more modern-but-still-older classics would be the first Saw, the Final Destination movies, Trick’r’Treat, The Grudge and The Ring :P)

Redmari

I will humbly accept any offerings you have 🫶 I've never seen any of the classic classics except for nightmare on elm street and the exorcist but I'm trying to catch up lol!! Oh and also I've seen It (the new one not the og) so I would love any recs!! 🥹🥹🙌🔥 so hyped for spooky season!!

Jade

I rarely get scared as well (probably just desensitized 😭) but I’d still recommend most of those, they’re still great movies! :P

Redmari

AAH if you need classic horror recs let me know!! My list was trying to cover some more recent movies but ngl every Halloween my tradition is binging older ones! The Fly, The Exorcist, Poltergeist, like every Stephen King movie adaptation lol I watch at least one movie a day all October 😂

Redmari

I remember watching this weird Australian horror movie from the 70' where a bunch of young people get stranded in the Outback with some weird cult that drains the blood out of people because obviously they're all vampires. I only remember fragments but it was confusing as hell but not creepy. I barely watch horror movies because I'm easily scared but my favorites (aside from Nightmare before Christmas and Beetlejuice) are Nightmare Detective and To Catch A Virgin Ghost (Sisily 2km).

Saltedcaramelmochi

YES thanks for the recs omg I just watched the whole scream franchise for the first time and now I'm on a roll trying to watch all the classics :') happy spooky month!!

Jade

Also I don't get why people say Happy Halloween. Halloween is supposed to be scary, not happy 😁

Quadrant

I'm someone that doesn't get that scared at horror films (though I feel jumpscares shouldn't count lol). I might send this list to a friend of mine who lives for halloween and horror shit and see what she thinks of it XD
