Hiya, to answer for you how the gun got into the courtroom (a lot of folks wonder, honestly and understandably with it not being common knowledge): If you recall, directly after taking the gun away and talking about it in front of the defendant the DA mentions it's "carbon fiber". Carbon fiber is used in many, many things but specific to this it's about how it was used to make the gun (as part of the several weapons it's made into). It won't set off a metal detector so the person carrying can walk through one with it and have no warning given and they wouldn't normally be heavily searched as they'd be assumed safe after earlier searches before they got the gun... We also find out later a number of the cops were working for the mob and it's a possibility a trusted person like a cop would pass through courthouse metal detectors with no suspicion as long as they passed over their metal items like normal when going through, then slipped him the carbon fiber gun afterwards. Basically, no matter who brought it into the court they could just walk right through the metal detector with it. That said, they *can* also be less reliable or even dangerous to the user depending on the quality the brand/maker put into it compared to a standard firearm.. but hey, he clearly thought this one would work correctly.

Rumpus Parable

To me, the key to the movie is Alfred's speech ending in "some men just want to watch the world burn." The greatness of the character of The Joker, and Heath Ledger's performance, is that you actually believe he's that kind of man. Any explanation beyond that wouldn't be convincing. That's why he keeps changing his story about his scars. The Joker just IS, without any explanation. I love your short break at 1:55 to talk about how we would react just how the people of Gotham would react. That's exactly how I felt on first watching. It's why the reaction of the people on the two boats is so moving: we realize that The Joker wasn't right about people "eating each other" after all.
